We should be able to do this all (tank/straps/sending unit) shipped for just over $200 and if you like and I haven't already, PM me and we will get this sorted asap, would love to see that tank sitting under the tree with a bow and tag reading "MISS LUMPY"

As to the straps, the bolts should be at the front of the tank, correct?

i believe the j bolts will be infront of the tank. i really believe that if they were new 10 years ago, they will be fine.

Thanks Ted for taking this on, I am sure Ken and Miss Lumpy will appreciate it very much. Hopefully Santa has enough time to get this under the tree before Christmas. You should have mine, hopefully everyone else gets it there quickly. Merry Christmas..Miss Lumpy and Ken.

Ok, If the straps and J-bolts are ok then the cost should be $106.25, and if the straps need changed Rock Auto lists them at $25.79 a set then it should be $132.68 with the straps. I'm curious where the $200 price tag is coming into play? What did I miss?

EDIT: The sending unit brings it to $195, that's what I must have missed.   :2thumbs:

Don't forget that Rock Auto has 5% discount codes to help out. Not much but every little bit helps.

The $200 price tag was with tank/straps/sending unit as Ken had stated his daughter will be getting and added to our order in order to save on shipping (unless we exceed what we need and want to cover it as well).  As of now, with what has been contributed we are at $150, which is plenty, unless we want to cover the sending unit as well.  I personally vote yes, but it is up to everyone here as it is all of our contributions that are going to make this happen.  You guys tell me.

I just double checked and they say grand total w/shipping is 194.98, must have clicked the spectra instead of the platinum tank or sending unit.

I just looked on Rock Auto site, the sending unit is around $50.00 for the 3/8 line. Going to talk to my daughter and she will chip in for my Christmas present. Who ever take charge of this project let me know so we can save on shipping.

Do you know a valid code, maybe we could upgrade him to Spectra (Canadian made, much better reviews) with that extra 5%.   :shruggy:

:o, Wow, you folks are just to nice!  :notworthy: I am still somewhat lost for words!

Jim the straps where new in 1967 when she was made!  :smilielol: Gas tank was replaced 10 years ago and they where fine then. Boy that sure sounds like famous last words.  :slap:

This is going to sound real stupid, but here it goes. How do I tell if the straps are bad? :shruggy: Gas tank is not falling out?  :scratchchin:

I wounder if Rock Auto carries preformed fuel lines, need to check that out!

Humbled again, Cuda Ken

Hey Ted, how are we making out? Do we have enough to order the tank yet? Hopefully we get it under the tree for Miss Lumpy's Christmas or better yet under her rear bumper.

A383Wing

yer gonna need to loosen the bolts to test straps....if they are still like spring steel and not brittle, they should be good

41husk

If you can get the J bolts off without cutting them the straps are probably ok.  As long as we are dropping it might as well replace them.

Miss Lumpy and I are tickled Chevy Less!  :2thumbs: Wife on the other hand.  :icon_smile_angry: Not so happy? Reason, she is afraid I will go Car Happy Again. She was pretty happy (never told me so) that I had gotten out of cars. While I was not active, the sound of a good cam would still make me look. Never total out of my blood and guess it will never will be.

If the straps are on the front of the tank, I will not be able to check them till the car is up in the air. It is kind of funny of all the parts I have yank out of Mopars I have never pulled a gas tank! :scratchchin:

Beside getting the gas tank from you folks the other reason I am grateful is I have learned about Rock Auto!  :2thumbs: There prices are amazingly low! Power steering box from NAPA with my old NTB discount was $221.00. Rock Auto after I get my core charge back $97.00. Plus they carry glass and sheet metal!  :boogie:

They carry Sherman and while the parts are far from being the best they are affordable. I have used them before when they where the only game in town at the time and I can deal with there parts.

Now if this dam cold snap would just break! 10 degrees is just a tad to cold to play with Miss Lumpy. :shruggy:

Looking forward to making the first Cam 2 run in Miss Lumpy Ken, and thank you all again!

Can I assume that when this is running again, you will stop by and take us all for a ride?   :D

A383Wing

I don't think I would worry about the fuel lines at this point....I would put a filter in the rubber line just between the frame rail and the fuel pump to collect any little buts of rust that may be in the line....that way the pump is protected as well

My opinion, consider the source

We are looking good so far and I will be ordering this tomorrow!  We are at $165 before I throw in and I am fine throwing in that last bit.  The 195 gets us the tank, sending unit, and straps; so Ken, don't worry too much about those straps.  :2thumbs:

Hopefully we won't get you in too much trouble, Ken. :D Also, if you could PM your address so I can get this going to the right place.

You should have another $20 in your inbox from yesterday afternoon which should leave you at $5 to throw in.  ;)

Rock is good but watch out for shipping! Many times I've put orders together to save only to find multiple shipping charges from various supply points killed any savings. Also returns can be costly to the buyer. Put all items in cart then check shipping estimate.
Sherman can save you money with reasonable fit and quality but don't be tempted by Classic to Current as they don't sell stamped parts. They are formed very basically and require a lot of extra work/forming to even fit. (That is why they are less $$.)

Tilar

Rock auto is great for one or two items like we are doing here but they are definitely not the cheapest if you order a lot of different items. It seems they send them all from different "warehouses" to tack on shipping charges.  I'd even bet they don't send Kens order all from one location.

Just check before pulling the checkbook trigger. I think Rock is clearing house not a actual "store". Linking inventory from all over the country digitally as a wholesaler account that all runs automatically. If you need to return or exchange parts it may not go back to where you got it shipped from.
Many times NAPA or Advance is so close after shipping it's not worth the difference on common items.

Just sent Ted my address. Guess the deed is done!  :boogie:

Guess it is now time to start packing up the HO train stuff. Kind of bitter sweet thing.  :'( While I will enjoy having Miss Lumpy inside, I will miss the train layout. I will be ordering and picking up some boxes Tuesday. Did a scale diagram on the garage, Miss Lumpy and the 9.5 X 5 foot section of train layout I want to keep. It is going to be a tight fit, but I think it might work.

If anyone wants some HO Train stuff speak up!  ;)

Far as what I like to get from Rock Auto, only 3 things right now.

1 Door repair skin

2 Left front fender repair patch

3 Trunk lock kit.

Where is the best places to buy tires? Mine do need to be replaced badly. I tried Tire Rack and BFG 245 60 14 (Front) are $141.00 each?

Would all so like to pick up some new Cragar SS wheels and looking for ideas.

Above is just day dreaming for now. First comes the bodywork! I love the smell of Body filler in the Morning!  :hack: :buff: :paintingpink:

With you folks being vested in Miss Lumpy what you you folks like to see me do next besides a Burn Out
