i have a 1973 charger. 440/727. i rebuilt the trans with a B&M shift kit. it went together great at factory specs. i took it out for a spin and it doesnt want to shift to 3rd. ive checked the forums and everyones story is different. it upshifts from 1st to 2nd. but never wants to shift to 3rd no matter my speed. i heard maybe valve body, maybe linkage, or kickdown. im using a cheap version of the lokar kickdown/throttle cable kit(almost identical to lokar). i left 1/8" of play in the linkage like recommended. i can not get it to shift right. and i dont know the specs on how tight to tighten the front band. it was super tight at first run. thanks guys!

I had one do that one time, turned out to be a small piece of trash in the valve body. i called the man that built it, and i know this is going to sound wierd, but he told me to get up to about 5 or 10 miles an hour, and then shove it up in reverse. he said that makes the fluid go a different direction, really quick, like flushing a pipe. did that a couple of times, and never had anymore trouble with it. not saying thats your problem, but fixed mine.

Just an idea, assuming it's not a reverse valve body, when cruising around lightly, not gunning it, try to upshift past 3rd into neutral, DO NOT GO PAST NUETRAL INTO REVERSE OR PARK!!!!, anyway go to neutral, then back down to third, if it goes into third that way it's probably the linkage, just a thought.....again DO NOT SHIFT PAST NUETRAL INTO REVERSE OR PARK!!!!,

my shifter only goes from (PRND21) i have tried to go to neutral and back to drive and nothing. and if i shift to R when driving wont it hurt stuff? haha like my face off the steering wheel?  its gonna sound crazy but i sandblasted the case of my tranny before rebuild. maybe theres still some sand in it? time for a tranny flush?

First thing to do is remove the Lokar cable from the transmission lever and move the lever full forward; if it will upshift with the cable disconnected the problem is in the POS Lokar setup.

If it still won't upshift you might have left the large check ball out of the VB when the kit was installed.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.
