Does turning your 69 into a General Lee hurt the balance of nature?

I have read so many pros and Cons on the subject as Ive enjoyed owning a General Lee and other stock 68s but how does the majority of Charger owners feel about General Lees?

It's kinda 50/50.  Some hate it, some love it and some just say "it's your car, do what you want"...    :scratchchin:  Wait, that's not 50/50,  more like in thirds.

Mixed.  Some like it a lot.  Some don't.

Not for me because mine was bought by my dad new when I was 5.  Bought it from him after HS.

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

Its one of those things you either lover OR hate, or just think its ok, I love them and used to want one (its was started my love for musclecars in general, not just chargers), As for upsetting the balance of nature... i hope so, simply because that would be badass  :coolgleamA:

Pretty much.  The body is being restored (same color - the F8 green that everyone loves  :smilielol: :smilielol: :smilielol:), The 3 speed manual will be swapped for a 5 speed.  Last year I changed the gears from 3.23 to 4.30, and the engine has been rebuilt 383 0.30 over with a 3.9 stroke by Muscle Motors.  I have yet to see how it will work.  Interior will be the same bench seat and XH options.  I drove it before and I'll drive it when I get it back.  I'll post pix when I get it back.  I am guessing we are still a month or two away.

I was a big fan of the the dukes when it was new. It was always rare to see mopars on screen. It is still fun to watch reruns of many old tv shows just to spot these cars as they were just driving by in the back ground.
They made so many chargers that it didn't hurt us much when they munched them for the show.
To make a tribute to the gen. lee speaks to the memories we have from those days.
Since AMD makes so much of what we need to fix these cars I have no problem with doing anything that makes our socks roll up and down. There was a time when I cringed at the thought of doing this.

its funny I noticed back in the 80s my friend had a GL and everyone made fun of him everywhere we went but when I built mine in 2010 I turned heads and drew crowds and almost get ran into people taking pictures with the cell phones on the higghway. I have all the graphixs and pushbar for Traveler and I know it will go on but Im thinking keep him original for a year.

I've thought about leaving my '70 joe dirt/80's style for now, do a half assed general lee paint job on it for a while, then eventually paint it a nice factory color.  That way I should make everybody mad at least once.

MAD??? Don't know about that....I like to see these types of cars in whatever form they are in....but I like your way of thinking....The thing I don't like is wrecking em by jumping or any other means.   :2thumbs:

Sorry if I refer to my car as a him or her but much like ships Ive always thought of my Chargers that way..and LORD KNOWS they have sometime acted like stubborn women but maybe more like old man lately..LOL....what kills me that at Hazzard Festivals they sometimes 15000 people CHEER when they jump and destroy another Charger. And you know somewhere in the crowd someone is thinking I wish I had a Charger or Im going to get one someday never thinking theres another one youre never going to see again..Makes me sad

I do get it. and understand. People fall in love with people (most of the time) but sometime with other things.
For example a woman was very attracted to walls. (no bs) She was devastated when the berlin wall was torn down.
It was the love of her life. However since there are many walls in the world she was able to find another.
Truly hope you can get the breathing tube out of traveler and make it run again.--Sorry make him run (and jump) again.

LMFAO..Im not that bad but Ive had some good and bad turning points in my life around owning Chargers. IIIt makes me feel pretty good to open the garage and turn the key and just here THE CAR start and just know taking a Charger on a road trip is a huge stress relief...that until your putting another 100 in the tank. But my GL made so many people happy and I think thats what its all about in the end..

I agree with this. Especially when it's a decent solid car. :icon_smile_angry:

Yes, I know I have too many cars. My wife reminds me daily.

Every body loves anything nostalgic. Something that takes them back to their child hood. The reaction back in the 80's would have been that of "try hard", "wanna be" or just plain "loser". You will always have haters of the GL because of what the show did to the car and how many they destroyed. Even young kids of today would see one and ask "WTF is that?"

GL Chargers (only in my opinion) are only worth it for those that appreciated the show. At the end of the day it is only cosmetic and can be changed back, so I don't understand the tension about these cars.

Try converting it to RHD  :nana:  :icon_smile_big:

Darkman that has to be the smartest answer to date. As with my genearal lee was a converted 68 as with all the ones the Valuzets built were all slapped together. Anyway I had 2 stock 68s before that and loved em. Driving into Bob's big boy on Fridays with the general and the older Charger collector snubbed the general but the teenager with the 70 begs me to drive him. If a restored Charger is added GL graphics great its when you modify it to make it a GL that and the horror of watching them get jumped and destroyed yeah that's pretty upsetting.

JB400

I for one, enjoy the Dukes and seeing the GL.  I'm halfway convinced to make mine into one.  It has some great nostalgia and most people enjoy seeing it.  I've always been a fan of a 70's style street terror, why not go all the way with a GL?

DodgeChargerNeeded

I grew up watching Dukes and would love to have a General Lee. I have had several Chargers over the years mostly 68's so I never wanted to do one the wrong year. I figured if I'm gonna do it once I'm gonna do it. Also if someone snubs you or hates you for what you did to your own car. I would just call that jealousy. I know I'm always jealous of the guy with the General Lee anytime I see one. But i'm not a hater I'm always drooling.

Enjoy seeing them, however a long line of them at a car show can be a bit much....

No offence to all the DOH or GL clone guys here... I too liked the show, especially Daisy Duke back then, it's part of my youth, but also pretty corny, not very well acted, but it was decent show/entertainment... I also like the cars too, but only like real General Lees, that were actually from the show, that have real show history, there are way too many DOH GL clones/tributes for my taste... but for the most part, I don't really care, I won't ever do it to any of mine, but if its your car, you can do what you will with it, it's just not my cup of tea... Now I do like KWS Extreme Lee
