69 dash Harness

Took the plunge & used the 30% off mothers day code (MOTHER) at Year One & bought a dash harness.  $375 shipped to my door.

Any one have any tips/tricks of doing this while the dash assy is in the car?

Over the years I have added a few things to the electrical system myself so I guess I am guilty of hacking the harness as much as the previous owners....I just hope I can get everything to work again!

Me three. I have mine in my shop ready to install. I removed my instrument cluster (to fix Burt ammeter, other thread) and radio.  Next I'm gonna see about taking glove box apart, if possible. Should be able to get it then. I'm hoping to start this week on it. If so I'll try to post picks and tips.

 remove steering column  , ((( could remove heater box instead , but column is easier & quicker )) ,   other wise you cant get to the back of the firewall block connector , to press / clip it into the fire wall  , & i found it in the way , (driver seat for room ) ,   also best to remove radio , will free up more space to get your arm /hand in there   , then remove the normal stuff , instrument -gauge cluster !! glove box liner , ash tray , passenger & driver  kick panels  , etc heater / A/C ducting

OR at least just drop the column down to get the dash face out , that is where most of the wiring is centered anyway , , I would remove the bulhead plug first then drop the column & install the bulkhead plug last after everything else is connected

Sounds like a plan guys.  Should be pretty much straight forward.  Hardest thing will be trying to get all my other do-dads to work again

you have the Tri plugs using bullet connectors to add to or you can connect to the rear of the fuse block with the male female double connector terminals

So I started on this harness and I took the new one out of the package and put it on the dash and started to match connectors just to see where they go blah, blah. I might be asking a dumb one but were are the dash bulbs on my new harness. The dash bulbs come outta my old one but none on the new one.  Is there a separate harness?

I just did the dash harness in my car on Saturday. Took off the glove box door & hinges then removed the glovebox carefully from the front. Pulled the radio out, then pulled out the gauge cluster. Once these were out, there was plenty of room. It was pretty easy. I took my seats out too so I had some room in there. I used the Year One harness. I was thinking this would be really complicated, it was easy. I also pre-marked all the wires by following the schematic, but it probably isn't necessary.

With wires hanging out in all directions when you pull it out, it looks mind boggling doesn't it?  But you soon realise it's amazingly straight forward and not that hard to put back together again.

where did you get the schematic, what about the dash light sockets.

I havent gotten my harness yet but I would assume there should be sockets for the instrument cluster lights in the harness?

Thanks Jonny, it does look pretty straight forward.   My car is an AC car so it might be a little different with some of the duct work in the way.   Im gonna start tearing into it within the next few days

I think the key bits of advice have been given already.  I researched allot as well and the only area I did not cover in my research was the light group that my car was optioned with.  I did not understand how the terminals piggybacked off of one another so I ended up damaging one of the terminals.  It wasn't a big deal as I just rearranged them and made it work.

Once I had mine out I inspected it and was VERY glad I made the investment.  I had several terribly hacked up lines in there but worst yet was where the factory soldered many wires together, that entire piece was falling apart and had many exposed wires.  Not sure if that was from previous owners or not but the very next day I went to the store and picked up a fire extinguisher!  Yeah, I have new wires now for the dash and engine bay but I still have the forward lights, rear lights, and interior wires.

so i have the wrong harness. even though its for 1969 Plymouth and Dodge B-body. or do you think they screwed up the harness

1969 B-Body dash harness part number HU271B is for the standard coronet / satellite / road runner dash with idiot lights , dont want this one for a charger

for a Charger / rallye dash is what Chris ordered / has HU274B

I concur....we have gauges, not oil lights

Send it back & get the right one....you dont want to do it twice!

Yeah, once I saw the other part # I saw at year one it was for light and not gauge. Thanks to tan top and Chris. I'm going to call year one and order the write one.
