QuoteA Boeing 747-400BCF cargo plane, operated by National Air Cargo, crashed on takeoff from Bagram Air Base (BPM), Afghanistan. A base spokesman said the aircraft crashed from a low altitude right after takeoff. A fire erupted. An air base official reported that all seven crew members were killed in the accident.

Saw that on Jalopnik this am. That is both insane and terrifying. Can't even imagine what the flight crew was thinking/feeling once they realized what was going to happen. Terrible.  :'(

As soon as I seen the video for the first time my stomach started turning. People wonder why I like to jump OUT of aircraft....  :-\

Tomorrow is promised to NOBODY . . . .

Drache

Talking to a couple other pilots and the preliminary thinking seems to be that the cargo shifted into the tail causing the nose to point straight up and stall the aircraft.

Good God, that is horrible!  The way it "pancaked" in, no one would have survived that!  Obviously stalling out and way too low to recover!

"they" are saying the likely cause of the stall was shifting cargo load upon take off...

I think its possible that seeing something like that in person may shock someone enough to make them speechless / unable to say or express anything.

A 747 doing something in flight it ain't supposed to do, sitting in a vehicle watching, ans the sheer size of that plane looks alot closer than it is, Idda been quiet too.

another factor...I dont know if the driver is familiar with the type of flights in and out of that base...but if he isnt, for all he knows 200-300 people just died in front of him. i mean, its still sad that 8 people died, but imagine your reaction if you thought you just saw a 747 full of passengers crash and burn...

That's devastating...I'm at a loss for words.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

I ran across some other info last night that the pilots reported that cargo had shifted. That certainly looks about right. It's not exactly easy to point the nose of a loaded 747 up that high. Amazingly, it almost looks like they could have recovered with more altitude.

Seeing that I would aswell remain speechless. Didnt watch the whole vid but that wreck looks like it killed more then 8.

TruckDriver

NBC news yesterday was saying that the Taliban was claiming that they shot it down on the evening news  ::) It is pretty obvious that it stalled out then fell. And I don't know much about planes, but I could see that much.

I think I'm going to be sick. That shit is horrible. I would be speechless watching that. A 747 is a huge aircraft to see dropping from the sky. What about the loaders, I hope someone is accountable.

I suspect cargo shift, nose up, stall, and the pilots dropping said nose to attempt to level out the stall...     no altitude caused the crash.

Very unfortunate thing - sad to see.

Cargo shift or cargo not being stored (distributed) properly is one of the main causes of crashes upon landing. It is so important it sits just right. Passengers have absolutely no idea of the dangers involved on take off and landing as no one is ever told these things.  I guess it's pretty much like ballast on a ship.

It was amazing and horrifying at the same time to watch. Sad about the loss of lives.

Tomorrow is promised to no one.......drive your Charger today.

In that video, Listen from 0:47 till 0:51 and tell me what that static means? I hear that same exact thing on my shop radio from time to time.
