Personally I think that the car is worth around what it is bid up to right now (currently 3k). It is rougher than a cob and I wouldnt be suprised if it needs rail work. I talked to the owner earlier and he has never really looked under the car. Doesnt sound like he is much of a car guy at all, he really didnt know how to describe in great detail the condition of the car. Sounds like the doors are shot along with the pass. fender. He said that he did not know if the underside of the hood was rotten. He also said that the drivers fender was saveable and was popping bubbles down low which leads me to believe that it is popped full of bondo judging by the looks of the rest of the car. Thoughts? I think that the one thing that this car has going for it is that it has the complete drivetrain, while it doesnt run, there is a possibility of it.

I will have to agree with you on the price, and maybe on up to $5k.  You might look around and see if the grill is laying around somewhere.  If it is, the wiw just went up a little more.  You might have a hard time finding another.  Hope the car is a decent score and I'm digging the custom diamond upholstery :drool5:

The upholstery caught my eye too.  I was just about to ask whether any were made that way, but gather this is something done later.
Who in their right mind would say

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

I wouldn't buy that with your checkbook!

Well you'll probably end up replacing most of the rear 1/3 of the car quarters, trunk, floors, valance and deck extension ( and more) and that will be costly, but the car is very complete which is nice, i didnt read the ad, does it come with a grille? those are costly, you defiantly have something to work with but i'd wouldn't go above 4k, and even thats pushing it a little  :Twocents:

:iagree:

You'll easily spend 25k fixing her up, and that's doing ALL the work yourself. It appears most of the car is there, the question is how much of it needs to be repaired or replaced.

I agree.

I would give the guy $3000.00 for the motorhome sitting next to it, you will have a lot more fun.  The Charger. . . .not so much.  :yesnod:

The grill is gone, which definately brings the value down. The good part is that I have quite a few 70 parts, which include a complete front bumper/grille assembly, front fenders, hood, doors, decklid, tail lights, rear bumper. I also have an AMD full floor pan. This car would be perfect for me but I would have to get it around the 3k mark.

nvrbdn

thats cool. i actually looked at this thing because i have a few 70 parts. if you have alot of this stuff already, it will help big time. so your #1 thing sits in how that frame looks.  good luck. :2thumbs:

I personally think $3k is high.    But if you've got all those parts and can do the work yourself then I think you'll be OK even at $3,500-$4,000.   Good luck.     :2thumbs:

Wow! I bought this running 1970 Charger 500, B5 blue, 318 car with AC for $600 in 1995.

I was completely honest on ebay when I sold the car. I pointed out all the problems that it had & areas that needed more attention. I would hire somebody from a local garage to drive over & give you a mechanical opinion of the car before bidding long distance.

Thanks everybody for your input. Leaving now to take a look. Will report back!

Wow, it looks rough in the pics. The only reason I would buy it, is if I could get it cheap (1000-1500) and then I would use it for parts. I would suggest waiting/searching around, they are getting harder to find, but still out there. I bought a pretty solid 68 in December for 4k. It needs floor pans, but that's about it. Quarters are nice and it had all the trim, seats, grille, etc., nothing major missing. I get a laugh at all these rust buckets on eBay, etc for ludicrous prices. What ever you see on the web, its about half in the real world. There's been a white 68 on sale on this site for a long time, pretty solid nice project for 6k (IIRC), you would be way ahead of the game, buying a car like that.

Good luck with your search,
Jason

Well it is absolutely as rough as it looks. The hood had a little rust in the front lip but could be useable. Every other body panel on the car that unbolts is shot. The frame rails were in OK shape. I did see some places that needed patching but there were no gaping holes. As of 2005 this car ran, it has the potential to be a driver while fixing it up. That is the most appealing part of the car.  He said that he wasn't sure what to ask and that his reserve was 5k. I respectfully told him I didn't feel the car was worth that much (it isn't) and I told him that I would give him 3k cash. By the response I got from him I would say that it is a 50/50 shot if I get the car.

Run away

If you can tell they need patches BEFORE they are hit with sandblast there will be no rails left once they are sandblasted.

I have been deep into the resto process of tearing down a car and am especially good at metal work. I understand completely about saving up and getting a nicer car but I have little patience and enjoy the metal work. If he takes 3k I will be happy, if he doesnt, I will be happy looking for another :Twocents:

sounds good. good luck which ever way it goes. keep us informed. sounds like a great restoration thread on the way with alot of metal working pic's. :2thumbs:
