Is there a kit where it shortens the throw on the shift? I know modern cars have kits now at lessen the travel on shift but the old 4 speeds?

JB400

If there is, it'd be one that would lengthens the levers on the trans.  I haven't heard of a short throw shifter for an older car.

John_Kunkel

For a shorter throw you'd want to shorten the levers on the trans side cover or lengthen the levers in the shifter mechanism.

The one-year-only '70 B-body Hurst shifter has a shorter throw than other years. The '70 is on the right in the pic below, '68-'69 on the left.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

I believe a 71has the shatter shirt arms. The 70 had long arms to prevent the pistol grip shifter from hitting the dash on hard upshifts
