on my 74 charger I am working on wiring up the headlight switch to a new harness. Unfortunately it appears the switch is confused. Normally we have 3 positions, off-parking lights only - headlights and parking lights. What I have right now is off - headlights and parking lights- parking lights only. It seems position 2 and 3 are confused. :brickwall:Wiring is not exactly my strong point. Has anybody seen this before? Right now I have only 1 power going to the switch, as I have bypassed the ammeter. Do I need to feed power from a second source to anther terminal?

It would seem that you only need to swap the terminals at P2 & P3. Are you using a factory switch/ connector and a custom harness?

we already talked through FB but will post here just in case I can be wrong and work together on this.

headlight switch has two input sources, one from fuse box and the other one straight from main splice... BOTH are battery source

the fuse box one, pink wire, sources two prongs in both ON positions... one for parking, black and black traced yellow wires splicen in it, and one for cluster dimmed functions ( Tan )

The main splice one, Thick black wire, sources only one prong, which is the light green for headlights, running to floor dimmer switch. This is hot just in the further out position.

The other prong is for dome light ( yellow ), which sources ground, from its own chassis...

and thats all...

it could be the light green and the black and black traced yellow spliced wires interchanged. That could be what kab69440 mentioned, just that I don't recall the prongs numbers LOL

do the cluster lighst works correct ?

in a note appart, the tan wire from dimmer wheel becomes orange at fuse box, where this sytem gets an extra fuse and is spreaded out from there to all the dash

Thanks guys. I got it. With the aftermarket wiring harness using stock gauges, i had to run a splice to power 2 different terminals on the headlight switch. Now its working the way it is supposed to. :2thumbs:
