mopar4don

So what did you use to fill the gaps?
Any special process?

PtitRaisin

Just plastic mastic.

And a few minutes to sand it and the hide every metallic part of the wheel.

The problem with all new sheetmetal is the holes missing when the paint is already done...
I had to drill all the holes for the exterior moulding clips of windshield and rear window.
Ready to put them in place!

According to you, does this kit contains these screws?

I don't see well, but I don't see bigger screws than the others.

Question for sheet metal pros :

I started to straighten ou a big impact in my chrome trim.

I knocked softly with some wooden block, then sanded with 800 paper and finish to a rough polishing just to see how it looks like.

But the defect is still there.
Do you have some tricks to have beautiful straight trim?

Picked up a few things from my uncle.  Work the dent/ding in reverse.  The outside edges were the first to move when the dent was created.  Start on the outside and work your way in.  You will end up with too much metal when your done.  You will have have to get rid of it.  You will probably have to start with a file and work your way through sand paper to cutting polishes on the wheel.   Some times when you have too much metal you have to shrink it using heat and cold.  But that's way out of my league and I'm not sure it applies to stainless.

You will need some tools.  I have no idea what they are called.  But it's a collection of drifts, punches,  flat and angled metal blocks etc.

My uncle restored early 20Th century vehicles for a living.  Metal work took too much of his profit, so he attended what he referred to as a seminar, bought some tools, and started practicing.  I'm sure today's  equivalent to that "seminar" could be found on DVD or youtube.

He is considered quite accomplished and at the age of 90 still saves one-of-a-kind trim pieces which have been turned away by respected shops.  With that said, he could not fix my wheel lip moldings.  There is much more going on with them than it appears.  So don't knock yourself out there.   :Twocents:

There's some information on repairing trim in Larry Lyles' "Project Charger" book. It's definitely worth a read. I was given a copy at the beginning of my project and I still reference it constantly.

the plus : you dont need alot of expensive tools

the minus : you need a sh*tload of patience wich you cant buy. stripe delete is spot on with his explanation.

NOS is nice, turbo's are neat, but when it comes to Mopars, there's no need to cheat...

I take it to my buddy, he did the trim at RM for twenty years so he has the skill and the price is right (and fortunately when it comes to price, we drink the same beer) :icon_smile_big:

six-tee-nine

My problem with beer drinking buddy's is that they lack skills to polish stainless trim, so i need to do it myself I guess...

Thanks all.
I made some wooden tool and give my patience. It's going the right way. Pics to come.

Chaos, I got the book now and I noticed a thing on the windows remounting :
on the 70 in the book, there are some plastic parts and a spring that I didn't found on my chrome trim:

Is it normal for a 69?
Quentin

Another problem tonight :

Thanks a lot ! I bought it this morning.
eBay for iPhone isn't very good for searching an item...
Quentin

Things are looking good on chrome trim side. Patience finally pays off!

It's not perfect like I would want to, but it's correct and presentable :

I have to give a last polishing to finish. Because some micro scratches are remaining.

One question concerning the seal. Do I have to stick it in the rail or not?
Quentin

PtitRaisin

Help !

Someone car tell me how to install the quarter glass outer trim?
Do I have to bolt or put some plastic inserts ?

Thanks in advance
Quentin

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you need some of these clip-on nuts. I don't know the official term.
