Many crimes involve people using guns.  It doesn't take many guns to do a lot of damage.  In fact the biggest serial shootings have usually been the work of just one or two individuals.  One or two shooters, dozens of people hurt or killed.

So, why not pass a law saying that if you own a gun, then that gives the police probable cause stop and search you at any time, anywhere?  In fact let's order the police to do this to you routinely by default.  (Crazy?  Yeah, but I assure you that millions of American voters would vote in favor of this.)

Now let's take it a step farther.  Let's say that if you come from a family of gun owners, then you are automatically put in the "search on sight" category regardless of whether or not you ever actually bought a gun yourself.  You stay there for the rest of your life no matter how clean your record is.  Your kids make the list too.  They also get pulled over and searched often.  Their grandfather purchased a gun legally, he never did anything wrong with it.  But him, you, and all of your descendants are grouped as "potential suspects" just because a small percentage of gun owners have lashed out and tragically killed a few handfuls of people.

This is what racial profiling is.

I do suppose racial profiling is less effective than it's worth.   Does anyone know why the FBI questioned the older brother 2 years ago? ???    I read somewhere that we were warned about him.

Mike From DC brings up good points about guns, however that isn't relevent to the topic of the two Boston terrorists who were making bombs, and shooting weapons (that were most likely illgal) during Friday's chase.

If anyone is to blame, it's our intelligence agencies and those who are in charge of them, who let us down again. Back in 2001, they knew that the 9/11 hijackers were up to something as well as the murderers in Bengazi last fall,  and once again they did nothing about the dead terrorist last year when we were warned by Russia about him. Apparently, nothing has been learned in these past 12 years. This isn't about Republicans or Democrats; it's about our national security. Heads should roll after this latest incident, but will they? ::)

MB, I believe MIKE was showing the other end of RACIAL PROFILING as an answer to
Skips:

" Bring back racial profiling.  This country needs to quit worrying about offending people and worry about saving lives.   Anytime you have a group of people that you can't tell the good the bad you have to search them all.   That should be the new policy and considered new political correctness. "  .

We are all looking for answers. It's tough sometimes keeping track of all of it. Especially with so damned much going on now..

Some have asked: Why the FBI isn't watching these people whom we get info on?  Well, I am thinking that if we put an agent on every person of interest around the clock that would be 3 agents to 1 bad guy minimum multiplied by everyone that has ever used a RED FLAG word such as BOMB or BOMBED or gun or pilot or hell, who knows?? All could be very innocent and I am sure most are. IE: I am taking the next flight to VEGAS. Since it's NYE I hope the PILOT isn't BOMBED!!

Oh shit!!!!! Who are those men outside my house??? lol..... Can you immmmmmmagine how many people would be working for the FBI and CIA then??????

I think its just like you said Steve, there's only so much they can do.  We can watch suspected  terrorist all we want but until we see them doing something really wrong we can't do anything.    Can't catch everyone.   Average Americans need to get more involved.   Somebody somewhere either knows or has seen something that would've been a red flag on these terrorists.

Read all the way down, good info to think about.
I promise it will make you think..

Do you know who Juval Aviv is? He was Golda Meir's bodyguard and the Israeli Agent upon whom the movie ' Munich ' was based. Golda Meir appointed him to track down and bring to justice the Palestinian terrorists who took the Israeli athletes hostage and killed them during the Munich Olympic Games. In a lecture in New York City a few weeks ago, Aviv shared information that EVERY American needs to know, but that our government has not yet shared with us.

A little background: Aviv predicted the London subway bombing on the Bill O'Reilly show on Fox News, stating publicly that it would happen within a week. At the time, O'Reilly laughed and mocked him, saying that in a week he wanted Aviv back on the show. Unfortunately, within a week the terrorist attack had occurred. Juval Aviv also gave intelligence to the Bush Administration about 9/11 a month before it occurred. His report specifically said that they would use planes as bombs and target high profile buildings and monuments... I think we all know what happened, right? Congress has since hired him as a security consultant.

Aviv predicts that the next terrorist attack on the U.S. will occur within the next few months. Forget hijacking airplanes, because he says terrorists will NEVER try hijacking a plane again as they know the people on board will never go down quietly again. Aviv says that our airport security is a joke – that we have been reactionary rather than proactive in developing strategies that are truly effective.

For example, because an idiot tried to light his shoe on fire, now everyone has to take off their shoes. Example 2: a group of idiots tried to bring aboard liquid explosives, and now we can't bring liquids on board. He says he's waiting for some suicidal maniac to pour liquid explosive on his underwear; government security will then have us all traveling naked! Last but not least, our airport security looks for metal, but the new explosives are made of plastic!
Currently, our government only focuses on security when people are heading to the gates. Aviv says that if a terrorist attack targets airports in the future, they will target busy times on the front end of the airport when/where people are checking in. For example, it would be easy for someone to take two suitcases of explosives, walk up to a busy check-in line, ask a person next to them to watch their bags for a minute while they run to the restroom, and then detonate the bags BEFORE security even gets involved. In Israel , security checks bags BEFORE people can even ENTER the airport.
Aviv says the next terrorist attack here in America is imminent and will involve suicide bombers and non-suicide bombers in places where large groups of people congregate, such as Disneyland, Las Vegas casinos, shopping malls, subways in rush hour, train stations, etc., as well as in rural America this time (Wyoming, Montana, etc.). The attack will be characterized by simultaneous detonations around the country involving at least 5-8 cities, including rural areas. Aviv says terrorists won't need to use suicide bombers in many of the larger cities, because at places like the MGM Grand in Las Vegas , they can simply valet park a car loaded with explosives and walk away.

Aviv says all of the above is well known in intelligence circles, but that our U.S. Government does not want to 'alarm American citizens' with the facts. The world, however, is soon going to become 'a different place', Aviv says, where issues like 'global warming' and political correctness will have become totally irrelevant.

On an encouraging note, Aviv says that Americans don't have to be concerned about being nuked. He says the terrorists who want to destroy America will not use sophisticated weapons. Instead, they like to use suicide, as it's cheap, it's easy, and it's effective – and they have an infinite abundance of young, ignorant, fanatic militants more than willing to 'go see Allah'.

Aviv also says the next level of terrorists over which America should be most concerned will not be coming from abroad. They will instead be 'home grown' – meaning they will have attended and been educated in our own schools and universities right here in the U.S. These young terrorists will be most dangerous because they will know our language and will fully understand the habits of Americans; but that we Americans won't know/understand a thing about them.
So, what can America do to protect itself? From an intelligence perspective, Aviv says the U.S. needs to stop relying on satellites and technology for its intelligence. Instead, we need to follow Israel 's, Ireland 's and England 's hands-on examples of human intelligence, both from an infiltration perspective as well as to trust 'aware' citizens to help. We need to engage and educate ourselves as citizens; however, our U.S. Government continues to treat us, its citizens, 'like babies'. Our government thinks we can't handle the truth' and are concerned that we'll panic if we understand the realities of terrorism. Aviv says this is a deadly mistake.
Aviv recently created/executed a security test for Congress by placing an empty briefcase in five well-traveled spots in five major cities. The results? Not one person called 911 or sought a policeman to check it out. In fact, in Chicago , someone tried to steal the briefcase!

In comparison, Aviv says that citizens of Israel are so well 'trained' that an unattended bag or package would be reported in seconds by citizen(s) who know to publicly shout, 'Unattended Bag!' The area would be quickly & calmly cleared by the citizens themselves. But, unfortunately, America hasn't been 'hurt enough' yet by terrorism for their government to fully understand the need to educate its citizens or for the government to understand that it's the citizens who are, inevitably, the best first-line of defense against terrorism.
Aviv also was concerned about the high number of children who were in preschool and kindergarten after 9/11, children who were basically 'lost' without parents being able to pick them up, and schools that had no plan in place to best care for the students until their parents could get there . (In New York City , in some cases this was days!) He stresses the importance of having a plan that's agreed upon within your family, to respond to in the event of a terrorist emergency. He urges parents to contact their children's schools and demand that the schools, too, develop plans of actions, as they do in Israel . He says we should all have a plan that is easy enough for even our youngest children to remember and follow.

Does your family know what to do if you can't contact one another by phone? Where would you gather in an emergency? Aviv says that the U.S. Government has in force a plan that, in the event of another terrorist attack, will immediately cut-off EVERYONE's ability to use cell phones, as this is the preferred communication source used by terrorists and is often the way that their bombs are detonated. How will you communicate with your loved ones in the event you cannot use phones, Internet? Bottom line, you need to have a plan!

If you believe what you have just read, then you must feel compelled to send it to every concerned parent or guardian, grandparents, uncles, aunts, whatever and whomever. Nothing will happen if you choose not to do so, but in the event it does happen, I promise this particular email will haunt you.

Forget "terrosim" it's a Holy War, plan and simple.  And it's not going away.

We did not permit German, Japanese, or Italian, immigaration during WWII in the name of national security.   Why are we letting muslims into the country now?  I'm not calling for internment camps, but, I don't see why we wouldn't revoke Muslim visa's.

The Middle Easterners that immigrated to the US in the first half of the last century were persecuted Christians.  Persecuted by guess who?  Muslims.  But now the majority of the middle eastern immigration is muslim.  If we don't import anymore those already here will eventurally assimilate.

It's not a war on terrorism.  It's a Holy War.

Mike DC

:Twocents:

Show me a decent size "Holy War" in the history of mankind that wasn't rooted in something much less noble.

There's a reason that the Muslim world has suddenly developed such a big grudge against the West during the last few decades.  It has a lot more to do with our muscle cars than our religion.

I'm not saying they didn't always hate the West - I'm saying they didn't always care enough to act on it.

I don't want to point fingers but if you Google religious terrorists it all points to Islamic Muslims.    It must be radical groups within the group that's reading some kind of old Testaments.    Sorry as I don't want to make this religious but, terrorists are  religious based fanatics.

The 15yo kids strapping bombs to their chests are doing it for religious reasons.  But what about the grown men sitting farther up & back from the actual violence, at the reins of the movement, not to mention funding it?  What about the people involved in supporting terrorism towards the West who don't live in caves?  Look several steps farther up the chain of command and they are doing it to fight Western influence in the region.

The religious teachings, both theirs and ours, have been around and widely-taught for many centuries.  And there are always angry poor 15yo kids who are looking for a cause and have nothing to lose in any time and place.  But for some reason the Muslim world has started pointing their angry poor 15yo kids at us lately.  This wasn't happening a couple generations ago.  What changed?

Let's face it, the only reason we are in the Middle East is because of oil. We now know that we have enough oil, gas & coal in this country to last us at least 200 years, however there is no resolve in this country to get the hell out of that God-forsaken part of the world and become energy independent. The faster we pull our business, military and resources out of that region of the world and develop them here, the better for us.

Watch "Zeitgeist" and you will see why we are at war.  I won't ruin the plot but the reason is money and it has very little to do with oil.

They said this morning that the bomber says they did it because they were defending Islam.     I'm sorry but this "Islamic/muslin" church crap seems to be breeding hate in their teachings.   Starting to look like a massive cult to me.   They have a real problem in their so called religion and they MUST step up and take care of it.      In some sick kinda way these terrorists are getting either taught or misunderstanding the teachings of this religion.   Something somewhere is telling these terrorists that these bombings is right and they'll be rewarded in the afterlife.       I think that the united states needs to call out the leaders of this so-called religion to clean house.    National security should come before worrying about offending a group of people.   Especially when this group of people damn well know that they have some serious problems in the translation of what's right to many of their followers.       If this was any other church in the USA that's believers were responsible for constant terrorist attacks, our government would start to lean on them.    In short, Shut them down!

Yeah, but the real world doesn't work like that.  The power struggle over resources & strategic control is more subtle.  The West doesn't literally STEAL things we want.  We topple regimes that are hostile to us and install regimes that will play ball with our interests.

The USA & the West are a big powerful entity, but so is the Middle East.  We can't just start giving orders to something the size of the Islamic religion.  Middle Eastern leaders who are willing to play ball with the West are what gets the terrorist subculture so angry in the first place.

That's the whole problem.  It's a large portion of the world that does not like our presence/influence in their lands.  The increasing hatred for the West does not correlate with the rise of the Islamic religion, it correlates with the rise of the West's presence/influence/wealth showing up over there.  They will stop sending teenagers wearing bombs when they stop feeling our presence all over their part of the world.  We will stop making our presence felt when we don't want access/control of their resources & location anymore.  Neither of which is going to happen any time soon.

I'm not saying the West is entirely at fault for this whole mess.

A big part of the issue is the sheer wealth transfer - Since the gas crisis in the 1970s the Western world has basically blasted certain OPEC countries with money out of a firehose as we buy their oil.  The leaders of those countries have won the lottery in the last 40 years.  Many of them haven't exactly been democratic & benevolent with all that money/power since then.  That can upset a country by itself even if the West does not directly push & shove the political situation there.

Steve P.

I completely agree with MIKE DC. There are more reasons than religion, but it is easiest for them to use religion as a reason than jealousy or just the fact that we do things differently.  one HUGE problem is that we give women a face in life. We allow them to vote and hold powerful positions and make decisions. They can drive and shop ALONE and can divorce a man. All of these things and plenty more are against their way of life and thought. Their women have heard that here, they would have a voice and a face and if someone lit them on fire here they could fight back. Even shoot someone dead in self defense. Boy does that piss them off..

Our using their oil is secondary. More excuses. The big thing is that we don't do as they do and so they use their religion to say we are wrong.. They tell it like a story of how we have robbed them. Fact is we have not robbed them of anything. We are a country based on HUMANITY for all. Not MEN RULE... They care more for a goat than a wife or daughter.

DUANESTERRR : Zeitgeist  is yet another tool to make people think.. I love the movie and effort they put into it, but I am afraid it may cause some to fight here... So please, watch it if you like but lets not go to war here.... It can be seen free on YOUTUBE.. There are many people whom have put it up, but a few are long and the only ones worth watching as they explain well their thiery.
