Too much gear...

please elaborate  :scratchchin:
What you don't realize is with an overdrive and spinning the pinion bearings at such a speed as that, you will kill the pinion bearings in no time flat with that much gear. Sure, your engine R's are lower, but at the cost of the pinion bearings.
Better run a diff. Cooler too and synthetic fluid.
Ever wonder why most Ford SUV's use $20.00/qt. Synthetic diff. Fluid with 4.10 gears and OD?
Now you know. Just trying to keep you from a costly mistake,  when some roundy round guy can use that gear set up.
Also, you might not believe this, but that gear set up is weaker than a 4.10...
Why? Ever looked at how many teeth are on the pinion gear? What? Like 4?? Lol.
The steeper the gear, the less teeth on pinion rendering it weaker for shock load. ( stickshift)...

yeah i've gotten alot of people to talk to me about that, i've taken a break from the axle for now, i'll re-think and see where to go from here, my college powertrain/transmission teacher told me, that having a 14:1 final drive gear could end up breaking axles with a v8, if i had a 4 cylinder i'd be find, so.. yeah... and youre not far off, it's 7 teeth on the pinion

Not to mention that a spool is absolutely horrible on the street (and a little dangerous too).

THAT WAS THE IDEA!!!!!!...... i mean..... yes  :whistling:

Spools are not meant to go around corners and street driving unfortunately involves lots of corners.  In order to turn it means one side is going to have to "skip" around the corner.  Now add a little speed or a slick surface and you won't be long changing your mind.  (also if one rear tire is down enough on air pressure they can be squirrely in a straight line too)

Hey man, Like I said, if the spool doesn't work out for ya, I've got a pretty much mint 8 3/4 you can have for next to nothing,  if anything other then picking the thing up once it's off my car for the Dana...

Several hours?  Well, its a good feeling when that patience pays off isn't it? :2thumbs:

It's a great feeling to finally get a '69 grille, isn't it? I felt like I finally had a real car when I bought one.

$500 isn't bad even if it's in rough shape. Thats an expensive piece.

Well despite the freezing rain, and the driveway turned into an ice-rink, i decided to work on the car, i mounted my switch/ radio panels, and im almost done the switch panel for the headlight/wiper switches, not bad for a day that could have killed me (nearly avoided falling ice from our tree)

im not sure what the used of the fake carbonfiber switch is, but it looks cool, and i got a cigarette lighter!!!!

Baldwinvette77

Well.... this puts a dent in my plans......  :o

The ice sure was fun for us, lol...  Glad you didn't have a car there at the time.

Me too, at 1 am that day the entire street decided to park our cars at the highschool across the street, we also stayed out and watched trees fall, was a great bonding experience

Also i jammed the grille onto the charger... this is the 2nd time i saw a 69 grille on a charger in person  :drool5:

Looking more and more like a charger. What most people don't realize is that if time isn't an issue (and you are not afraid to dig) that you can get good quality parts at reasonable prices.

Very true  :coolgleamA: this car, in terms of quality is about 6x as nice as what i originally planned and costs about the same  :2thumbs:

Hey Baldwin, you got a box coming your way!  ;)

timmycharger

Just read through the thread, great job doing this bucks down, amazing what just a grille can do for your motivation. Ive had mine hanging on my garage wall for almost 10 years now waiting for its proper place.

Keep it up!  :2thumbs: :2thumbs:
