If you want to keep both cars and have the space, get one of those Cover-it garages.  It will keep the elements off of the car till you get the chance to get a more permanent garage built for either car.

I also agree with what said that the charger is a family heirloom and you can eventually say "My grandfather bought this brand new and I personally restored it in his honor!

X2!!
Great story, look forward to hearing it unfold!  Definitely keep the Family car from Grandpa.  :2thumbs:

Here are a couple pics...

For the K-member, what are the "isolators" and what do they look like?  1 per corner for a total of 4?

Start with the k-frame and then install the front end. i just completed that and the extra room i picked up in the garage after installing all that stuff was a motivation alone. then i am going to detail the engine bay, drop the motor in  and then the grille and bumper.

all my parts are chromed, painted, powder coated or re-plated. your can scan this website and see it all before hand. Just use the correct fasteners to reassemble. you can also see those by going into the archives on this site. There are many guys that have pictured there own process.

don't know what an isolator is on the k-frame? i was the first to dissemble my car and nothing fell out when removing my k-frame.

A '57 chevy is great and a family herloom 68 charger is a gift from god. Dont let either go or you will be the old guy saying shouda wouda couda or howeever that saying goes. If at all possible keep em both.

Kern Dog

As stated, the K member is bolted directly to the frame rails without spacers or isolators. $ bolts, 2 per side.

Nice looking car.  Glad to hear you received such a great gift.  If possible, try to keep both cars, even if you have to mothball one for a while.  At least you'd still have it, otherwise you'll :brickwall: for the rest of your days.

Dont want to sound like an ass but if your engine falls over on your grille, you're gonna wish you put the grill away for safe keeping. Maybe you dont know but they are made of gold (or that is what you will start to think if you need a good part for them)

NOS is nice, turbo's are neat, but when it comes to Mopars, there's no need to cheat...

This is exactly how it was given to me.  Been sitting like this for 3 years.  I start work on it this weekend.

How high is your garage ceiling?

You could get a lift and park the Charger over the '57  :Twocents:

thats true.  We had to put a recessed ceiling above our el camino in order for the chally vert to fit under the elky when it was on the lift.  I gotta say, that 4 post lift was the best purchase we have EVER made!
