I just bought this 1971 Charger.  Just a base car with 318, auto, PS, PB, and AC.  The power buldge hood was added by the previous owner.  Could the power buldge hood be ordered as an option on a base Charger.  Thanks.

Looks like a great project/ driver. Nice find. If I was lucky enough to find a car like that, I would make sure it was mechanically sound and enjoy driving it. I don't believe the bulge hood was an option on the base car, but never say never.
Oh, we need more pictures. Good luck with it.

Yes you could order a bulge hood on a base charger if you wanted it bad enough. Nice car   :2thumbs:

Welcome to the forum by the way.

Nice project!

There simply was no power bulge hood available in 71. The performance hoods available were the R/T hood, Super Bee hood, and the N96 RamCharger hood. None of which were available on a base Charger.

As far as 72-74 Power Bulge hoods, I have never seen any evidence that they could be ordered on a base car. They were part of the Rallye package.

I know what you are trying to say though. :Twocents:

Nothing at all wrong with my statement....and why you would bother trying to correct my statement is beyond me. They were clarified very clearly.

Most people I know define a PBH to be different than a 71 R/T hood, 71 Super Bee Hood, or a Ram Charger hood. The later 3 being the only performance hoods available in 71. Fact: What most people would refer to as a Power Bulge hood was not available in 71.

very nice car, good find!  :2thumbs:

...and for those that know (cuz I don't), were there 4 different Charger hoods were available in 71? There was the basic flat hood, the louvered hood, the Ramcharger hood, and was there a plain "bulged" hood available or was that a later style?   I know not all were available on all models, but were there 4 different hoods? :scratchchin:

Nacho-RT74

just 3 on 71s, then just 3 on 72s and just 2 on 73/74.

71: Flat, bulged with cutout for Bee or RT insert depending on car model( yes these hoods are the same just changes the insert ), N96 RamCharger
72: Flat, Plain bulged just for Rallyes ( no cut out ), N96 Ramcharger
73/74: Flat, Plain bulged just for Rallyes

aside of years difference on cowl area ( diff grilles )

ONLY OPTIONAL HOOD was the N96, and was available just on "performance" models... said this, just on those what originally was to get Bulged.

Rest of bulged hoods were part of packages, never an individual option.
