how does the nose fit on the valance and the brace inside?

While putting the nose on our school project Daytona last week I found that it only bolted together one way, That way leaves a big gap at the bottom between the nose and fenders and nose and valance panel.
Right now it has the extended lip of the nose over the lip on the valance panel with the metal brace bolted on top of the two inside.   Is this correct?  it is the only way everything lines up, if correct I will have to do some trimming and elongate the bolt holes.
