anyone know the correct part number or cast number on the balancer? 440 HP 6 pack.   I have one with a number 3614374

That's a 400 cast crank one, similar to the six pack but not the same. I have a 6 pack pack one somewhere  in the workshop but I don't recall any part numbers on it. From my info the 6 pack number is 3512017, it has the uneven bolt pattern.

The balancer must match the crank and rods, 69 used standard rods so standard forged crank balancer, 70/71 6 BBL/HP had HD rods that are heaver so thinner balancer. I think cast crank started in 72-73?
so...p5249694= 440 forged crank 361-383 forged crank, 413-426w
       p5249695= 440 w HD rods
       p5249696= 400 cast crank (will be marked on face as such) Note: TQ. Converter is balanced so diff from others also.
       p4452776 is viscous/fluid b/rb
also p3830183 thin crankshaft damper for all pre-72

Here's a pic of a 440 6-pack balancer. It is approx 1in thick with a weight welded to the face that is designed for the external balance using the heavy 6-pack rods/pistons and forged crankshaft.

If yours looks like this one....you're good to go  :yesnod:

When viewed from straight ahead the 440-6 and the 400 balancer appear to be identical but the difference is in the thickness of the offset...the 440-6 is about 3/16" thick while the 400 is 3/8" thick.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.
