:coolgleamA: We're heading out to the LA area tomorrow for a week and are looking for some good cruise nights to attend during this week. Specifically Tuesday  22nd thru Thursday 31st. We will probably go the the Bob's Big Boy in Burbank Friday night and find something for Saturday.

I went online and it seems that many of them don't start until later in the year... :'(

Any ideas???    :2thumbs: Thanks!!

not cruise nights per se (actually, more like cruise mornings) but there's Cars n Coffee in Irvine on Saturday morning and Super Car Sunday in Woodland Hills on, well, Sunday morning. good mix of classic and modern muscle, vintage euros, and modern exotics.

Calabasas, the shopping center at the corner of the 101 and Mulholland Drive, the last Sunday each month, used to have a big show, nothing formal, just really big. You have to check with locals to see if it is still an on-going event.

That's the SuperCar Sunday event I mentioned in my last post.. It used to be in Calabasas but I guess aside from the coffee shop that first put it together, none of the other places in that shopping center wanted the business of 100's (often 1000's) of people that attend it and complained, so about 3 years ago it got moved to the Woodland Hills location, at a mall parking lot.

Also, it actually takes place every Sunday, but on the first Sunday of the month it gets huge and that's when all the real big $$$ cars come out. The "big" Sunday event used to be on the last Sunday of the month, but it got moved to the first of the month because (true story) it conflicted with a flea market held in an adjacent parking lot. :rotz: Either way, even on a "regular" middle of the month Sunday there's still a LOT of eye candy to check out. Just gotta get there early - 730 or 8 am, most cars start leaving at around 9.

Bob - if you do make it to the Woodland Hills event, shoot me a PM. I live like 2 blocks away.

We got in on Tuesday and the weather was nice. We went to a cruise at Fudrucker's in Lake Forest, but the turnout wasn't so great. Wednesday we drove up the PCH and found a road called Latigo Canyon Rd in Malibu. Wow! Amazing winding road with scenery, views of the ocean and multi-bazillion dollar homes on the cliffs. I made a video of the drive and will try to upload it. Then we went to Hollyweird, saw the walk of fame and the Hollywood sign.

We also got tickets to the Tonight Show taping yesterday. Kenny Loggins and Dustin Hoffman were guests. Also have tickets for today to see Robert De Niro. I'll try to pull Leno aside and talk him into a private tour of his garage. Maybe he'll let me take a few cars out for a ride...  Maybe the McLaren F1

It's currently pouring rain and it's supposed to continue through the weekend. We rented a '13 Corvette convertible for the week...PERFECT convertible weather lol. Awesome car anyway...

Oh well, we're going to go to some museums and try to make the best of it. Maybe look for an umbrella or rain coat. I never thought to pack those for a trip to SoCal...

They even said it's going to be raining in the high desert! We have some POWERFUL poor weather karma!

We went to the Petersen Museum yesterday also. Saw lots of great cars and got lots of pics. Unfortunately I have to wait until I get home to upload them...

There's supposed to be a big cruise tonight at the Bob's Big Boy in Burbank tonight, but it looks like it will be a wash out. Very bad timing for a vacation in Cali. Next week is supposed to be gorgeous though! Too bad we won't be here any more lol.

The Tonight Show taping was good today. We had much better seats this time. Robert De Niro was very dry and seemingly disinterested and bothered by the whole thing. But it was fun nonetheless. We went to the cruise in Burbank despite the rain. There were only 3-4 cars but we met some very friendly guys and BS'd for an hour or so.

One thing seems to be a common thread here. The people are VERY friendly and laid back compared to home. Huge difference. Very refreshing...

That's a shame it was raining at bob's, its usually such an awesome show. The taping's sound fun, a couple of my friends have gone to them but I never had the chance.  There are a lot of fun roads out here, enjoy em'!!!

P.S. I know one of Jay's mechanics; the personal tour is a car guy's wet dream. Three buildings full of motorized awesomeness!

I was lucky enough to be of the generation that got to cruise the legendary Van Nuys Blvd.  During the summer, that place was hoppin' Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.  But Wednesday was THE night.  Literally hundreds of cars.

Somehow it never was the same for me after the LAPD closed it down years ago.  Oh...and when they did?  Yup...crime rate went up.   ::)

the Wednesday cruise came back about 4 years ago as a once a month deal. it was insane the first couple of months b/c it was new and it was during the summer - there were 1000-2000 cars. it only lasted a couple of months though - the big parking lot that was the main spot got locked up and there was no place for people to get together, etc. Then the "troublemaker" types started showing up and the cops weren't as welcoming as they were at first. After that it just kinda petered out. It was fun while it lasted, and it was good for some of us who were born after the Iran Hostage Crisis to get a taste of what it was like in the proverbial "back when" that the old guys love to talk about.  :icon_smile_cool:

Here's a li'l vid I put together back when the new Van Nuys Cruise was still bumpin (circa 2009).
