Looks like the tranny that came with my 71 440 car is a 68?.......727 auto , the switch on the tranny has a single pole connector.......I believe that was 68 early 69?......The guy that sold me my car (in pieces) had a 68 Hemi charger (in pieces) and now I believe he gave me the wrong transmission with my car and gave me his tranny out of his Hemi car.......a hemi tranny bolts to 440 correct?

The problem I have is the backup light and neutral switch..........I need the three prong switch, not the single one........Can I simply change the switch to a 3 prong...or is the cam inside the tranny that operates the switch different to??

Any thoughts?

I have a 70 trans in my 68, just pulled out the three prong switch, and put in the one stud type, never changed levers, that was in 1980, still works perfect.

Thats a win!  :2thumbs: I ended up having to install a pair of micro switches on the shifter of the 69 trans in my 68 car to replicate reverse and inhibit functions.

Thats what John is saying.  The "interior part" in one (a trans originally meant to have one) will operate both style of switches but if the trans is meant to have the three prong, then that is all that will work.
This would explain why my 67 could use a three prong switch but it would also have to mean that the later model trans I installed had to be modified before I ever got it.

The single prong switch can be installed in place of a 3-prong but not vice versa. You need to pull the existing switch and look into the hole to determine if it has the plastic shoe in the pics above or just the two steel contacts. If it has the plastic shoe you can install a 3-prong NSS.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

I can't get how a 3 prongs switch can work on an earlier roostercomb without this GETTING STUCK with NSS, hence the reason for the shoe

Well...I bought a new three prong switch on way home tonight, and took single prong out and looked inside.......... :2thumbs: mine has the inner plastic shoe that will work with the three prong switch..............so I am not sure exactly what year the tranny is at this point
But I should be good to go!

thanks everyone!!

Actually, I opened my mouth before I thunked on that switch....I don't need it, I don't have anymore single prong switch cars...the Daytona is a 3 prong, and the 66's are 4spd cars....

give it to someone who needs it

I was referring to the function; if the 3-prong is installed in an early trans the Neutral Safety function will work but the BU light function won't....in the case of the OP the subject trans is possibly a '68 which needed only the Neutral Safety function.
