New CAFE Standards Announced

I did not see this mentioned on here.  It seems to me this was quietly done.  By 2025 auto makers are to be at 55 mpg. Last I read they were going to have a hard time meeting the 33 mpg by 2016.

I know it will be difficult not to get political on this matter as it is the government who is doing this to us.  But I am asking to keep bashing at a minimum so the thread does not get locked.

So what happens to cars such as the old american muscle cars that cant get that? ARe they going to banned?

Nope.

If I remember correctly , this is why Chrysler had the PT Cruiser listed at a truck.    It had such good fuel mileage, it lowered the truck average down enough for them to meet CAFE standards then.
