alternator gauge

Hi i have a problem whit the alternator gauge the bold black and red cable from the battery have burn and they go from the battery trow the body and direct to the guage alt and my qest is can i just cutt this or is this the +- for the hole car ? thanks edd

The heavy red and black wires on the ammeter are the power for the whole car.

 Are the red and black wires going into the ignition switch  the same wires that go to the amp meter or another set?
