electric fan fuse MELTED!!!! Why?

So I have about 4000 miles on this setup, and not a single problem. Duel Flexalite fans. Installed with all the components from the kit. Wire, thermister, relay pack, crimp ends, everything. Anyhow, today I was just about home and noticed the temp creeping up and up. I figured right off the bat, my fans stopped working, but i can't hear them over the engine. I get home, kill the car, and flip the ignition back to ACC position and I hear no fans.

I pop the hood and go right to the fuse. MELTED. Not blown, MELTED! All the wire is in perfect shape, connectors perfect, no signs of heat. The only heat source was right at the fuse.

Now my limited knowledge says that this fuse was not making good contact, and heated up from created resistance. Does this seam to be the case?

I am going to replace the whole wire and holder today, but wanted to run it buy folks to be sure.

Had a similar experience and the spade connector turned out to be the culprit (not enough contact area for the current load)...newer versions of my controller omit the spade connecter and include crimp splices instead.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Yeah both turn fine...

I picked up a little bit larger car audio type distribution block/Fuse holder today. I am going to install that mounted on the fender tomorrow and see how it does.

do the fans turn with 12v power put to them?

sure looks like it was a contact issue that created heat and melted the fuse. Was that a mini fuse or a regular size plastic fuse.

Regular size fuse...

I replaced the wire, and fuse holder with a nice weather pack unit and ran the car all day.  no problems at all!!!

Guess it was just a crap fuse holder or fuse.

Keep an extinguisher in your car folks, you never now!

I had the same thing happen to me a few years ago.

Best I can figure is that the fuse was bad or there was not enough surface contact with the fuse holder.

I replaced both and have not had it happen since.
