Why are you crying?

I'm thinking it was too much info I gave.....maybe he was thinking just swapping engines would be the way to go

Ghoste

If you buy the right 440, most of those things could be with it.

motor mounts, etc.

but if I read his question right, I think his concern is whether the "Chrysler" engine will work with the Dodge car. Am I correct, Shlep?

In that case, yes, Chrysler parts fit Dodge as do Plymouth ones.  Unlike GM, another of the advantages of running a Mopar is that for the stuff we are interested in, there are no division proprietary drivetrain parts.  A Chrysler 440 will fit in your Charger like it was made to go there.

Thx my understanding is I need an adapter kit for cross member and the right oilpan and at least 8 three quarter rear end I'm just wondering driveshaft and springs as this is a 318 car

Ghoste

You shouldn't need an adaptor kit for the K frame.  You will need the correct mounts but you can use the same one.  The oil pan should be the same unless you are getting a 440 from something like a motorhome or truck application.  The 8.75 rearend will hold up better if you have a smaller one in the car now but the driveshaft is definitely different.

Shlep 68

Thx that cleared up things much appreciated

Cooter

Yeah, unlike Chevy where one COULD take out a 250 inline 6 and dump in a 454 and EVERYTHING just bolts up, Chrysler did do a few things different.

Dumping in a Chrysler 440 isn't all that hard today with the correct motor mounts. You will need the Yoke off the Chrysler's driveshaft(727) as your 318 Charger should be a 904 and they are different. The big Chrysler's 8 3/4 rear will NOT FIT your Charger unless spring perches are cut off housing and rewelded, and even then, it will be VERY WIDE. meaning, NO wide wheels in the rear that everybody seems to like here. (10" wheels with 295/50/15" tires)...

So, just to clarify, all of the K-members are the same?

Ghoste

Not ALL of them but enough of them.  In this case, they are.

Shlep 68

Nice thx front springs will hold motor weight yes thx for the info keep it coming as my project is close to driveable  :2thumbs:

Ghoste

Yes, they will.  Torsion bars can wear out over time, so that does not mean that yours may not need to be replaced but they do not automatically need to be.
