my 1:24 model replica of my car (built with help of my 5 yr old daughter)

This started out with the intent of building a model for a car show coming up on Sept. 1 in Vineland, NJ as they will also have a model car category.  I got the model out at Carlisle during the Chrysler show and figured it would make a good father / daughter project for my 5 yr old daughter and myself.  Little did I know that I would become obsessed with the smaller details of this too like I did with my full size charger.    Anyway, here are some progress and finished result pics.

That did turn out great, Brian.

I think a lot how it turned out so nice had to be because of the product Bare Metal Foil that I found at a hobby shop.  The stuff is very similar to aluminum foil that has an adhesive backing.  It really made the car pop once I put it on there.  Also a lot nicer looking than the aluminum paint!

I was the same way.  The original one I did back around maybe 10 years or so ago did not turn out anything close to this nice or detailed.  When I thought about getting my daughter something out at Carlisle, I felt this would be a good bonding thing for us.  As it was, I did most of the work as I wanted it to be nice and detailed but I let her help out where she could.  As it was, I ended up getting another model (same kit) off of ebay, cheaper than what I paid out at Carlisle so we can do another one.  This one she wants to make for her younger sister who is only 19 mos old now.

That's awesome! What model kit are you buying? are they metal frames, and such, or just the typical plastic? I guess if I was to do something like that I wouldn't want to waste my time on a bad model ya know.

Thank you all for the compliments.  Im sure that my daughter would appreciate to hear them also.  My goal was to try and make a model of my charger and do something with my daughter that would bring us a little bit closer and give her more of an appreciation of cars.  She already likes the charger when we take it out, why not get her into building something rewarding like this and show her that with patience and hard work, you can do almost anything.  (plus it also kept her from playing that damn Nintendo Wii Mariokart!)   Things will change though as she starts kindergarden in Sept!  Its hard to believe where the time has gone!

yeh, same with the other R/T decals that were kinda molded into places like the grille headlight door and such.  I could have always painted behind the decal white but then the chances of it not matching the decal could have made it show through or worse yet, raise it up ever so slightly so you saw a bump in the decal.

I've actually come up with a couple extra things that I can do to add a little more detail to the engine area as well as other areas.  Items such as antenna, spark plug wires, PCV or breather hoses, etc.

You know what they say about idle hands.........
