Slack Brake Pedal - any ideas why?

Hey folks,

Adjusted all of my brakes (drums all around) and bled them twice. However the brake pedal does not come all the way back up to engage the taillight switch. There is about 1/2 inch of slack. Any idea as to what would be causing this? Its a brand new master brake cylinder. The taillight switch is a clip in....not adjustable like an old jeep. And obviously our car did not have a spring on the brake pedal to bring it back up. So with that said, I'm at a loss as to why there is a 1/2 inch of slop where the brake pedal will not come all the way back up...it just dangles loose...no pressure on it.

Basically after I brake, I have to pull up on the brake pedal with my foot to get the taillights to turn off.

Any help would be appreciated. thanks!

Your NOT using the Z bar set up from power brake right? They make an adjustable manual push rod that will fix your problem, you may have the wrong push rod. I think A body's are shorter.  :scratchchin:

All I know is that I ordered a new master cylinder for a b-body charger from partsgeek.com. I wonder if it was a different master cylinder than what I ordered? It looked identical to the original that I pulled off.

Mine is the same.
You can actually tweek the little bracket that the switch sits in so that the brake lights go off.
I tapped the bracket with a long screwdriver, moving the bracket until the brake pedal was contacting the switch properly.
As long as your brakes are in fact operating correctly I'd try that.

ps
The brake pedal usually drops a little when you start the car.

Good point, do a search here of "power to master brakes" I posted pics of all the correct parts in it.  :scratchchin:

Back N Black

Not sure if power or manual set up is different but there is a spring on the pedal.
