That red Daytona used to be located 6 miles from me near Phoenix NY(where the drawbridge car jump scene in the horror movie "happy birthday to me" was filmed starring Melissa Sue Anderson of Little House On The Prairie fame)
The original owner was a regional sales rep for Chrysler back in the day and bought the car at a dealer in Utica NY new.
Original color was Hemi orange, black stripe/wing, black interior w/auto console. Psychedelic paint job and customizing was done around 1974. Very low 16k original miles when I looked at it back in the early '90's. Owner still had all the original parts for it, interior, magnum 500 road wheels, etc.

Best paint job on a wing car ever, S&M Superbird. Nothing is even in the same ballpark. 2nd best wing car paint job, Uncola Pete at the '70 Daytona 500. Great nose paint and front spoiler.

G. the S&M paint scheme was pretty much consistent on every body S&M campaigned: A,B,E plus all the other variant classes they ran, personally I love the S&M 71 Cuda, and yeah the S&M Superbird is cool, I can't say the same for the UnCola car though....but IMHO the BEST paint job on a wingcar can only go to:

Mike; the fact the the S & M Superbird was the same general paint scheme as their other cars does not diminish it in my opinion. The picture of it in front of their shop in 1970 is the tops.

"Uncola Pete tops up" with the race traces on the car is ultimately cool. Plus the fact that no one in the press picked him to win Daytona. A Steve McQueen for the common man. A great story of a man driving an extraordinary race in an extraordinary car.

Flamed car, just another visual mess created by a local painter IMO.

Watermelon car, even your clone of it, pretty cool. The original scheme there seems well thought out. You seem intent on dying in the corner of a dark damp basement all alone with all you know so good luck with that. No one is getting any younger.

The red Daytona at Carlisle, pretty cool, well done.
