6-pack intake questions

Why are there both aluminum and cast iron intakes for 6-pack cars?  

Which Mopars got the aluminum ones and which got the cast iron ones?  

Did Edelbrock make both for Mopar?  

Is there a difference between them other than weight?  

Does one flow better than the other?

Edelbrock cast the first bunch out of aluminum and they went on the 69 1/2 A12 cars.  I beleive the story goes that Edelbrock had trouble delivering but whatever the reason, for 1970 Mopar cast them for themselves out of iron.  Some 1970 cars got leftover aluminum ones.  No other difference other than weight that I know of and they flow the same.

I can attest that the weight difference is HUGE...   I have both an aluminum and an iron one in my shed and MAN - that iron one is heavy...

I had a cast iron one once and GEEZE!!! I sold it because the damn thing weighed a ton (never actually weighed it) but man IT WAS HEAVY!!!!!

Shipping weight for the cast iron unit I sold recently was 74 lbs actual weight...   



I have another cast Iron unit if anybody is interested,,,

I'll weigh them sure -  I'll also dress them with the factory brackets, carbs, and what not just for laughs.

The 340 six packs in the AAR's and T/A's were aluminum.

55 lbs sticks in my mind for the cast iron.   And around 20 lbs for the aluminum...   subject to change if somebody actually weighs theirs.

Mines bolted to the block right now so it's actually quite heavy
