Carb rebuild - accelerator pump

I'm putting a carb kit in a Carter AFB.   I recently read a post on one of the Mopar sites where a member advised soaking the accelerator pump in oil before installing it.  I don't remember hearing this before, and it is not included in the carb rebuild instructions.  Is this a common practice now, or just 1 persons opinion?

As long as you make sure that the bore in the carb is smooth, you don't have to do anything to it.  A lot of people soak rubber parts in oil to make them more pliable but as long as you have a new seal on the pump and it looks good, just stick it in there and go for a drive.   :2thumbs:
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

Maybe I should have stated that the pump is made of leather, not rubber, if that makes a difference.
