Hi, I need some help as I am trying to find one of those diehard stock car fans from back in the day who would have pics or even video(its a long shot) of any of the mid 70's Nascar or ARCA races with the '73-74 Chargers in it.
Or more specifically if anyone would have photos of the #53 Johnny Banks Charger.
I recently purchased this old beast and I would like to bring it back authentically to what it would have been outfitted with for the period.
Any old experts out there that can help me ?? :shruggy:

Sweet!   Do you have much of the history since the mid 70's ?

Nice project.

So far, what I see is that the cage is a home build, meaning not fabricated by Nichels or Petty.   But by the way that cage looks, you can tell that it is definitely the car in the original pics.   Fuel fill location also gives it away.   The seat is the standard late 60's style seat that Nichels used.   It has the race style front sway bar and tube.     The upper hoop bars under the hood were fabricated on the outside, like the cage.   Dash and guage panel appear to be owner fabbed.    Need to see more detail to determine if possibly this car has earlier origins.  Older chassis often got rebodied and completely rebuilt as time went on.   It would be unusual to completely change the side bars of a Nichels cage, but anything is possible, particularly if the car started out before 1968.    The Petty hubs are of no significance.  They were over the counter service parts.

More pictures are needed:

The front floors including the torsion bar crossmember, both sides.

Open the hood and lets see the K-member and a straight on shot of the firewall.

Take a better shot of the rear tunnel over the rear end pumpkin.

Better angle of the rear shock mounts showing the mounting plates for the shocks.

Inside the trunk.

The story that I recieved was that this car had started out as a '73 Charger and was obtained by Johnny Banks from Buddy Arrington. It was used in some ARCA races however he raced a #55 car and rolled it qualifing in '76.
This car recieved some usage from his son in ARCA as well.It sat for some time and had passed through a few owners, one of which was going to "restore" it and race it on dirt tracks. I believe there was more injury than restoring going on  :scratchchin:......the fellow I purchased it from had found it sitting in a barn in Ontario.
Johnny Banks owned  Banks Alignment in Windsor,Ontario and as the pic shows...he sponsored himself.
AERO426, if you pm me with your email address I can get some of those photos to you. My buddy Magnumcharger has to post pics for me as I suck at it, Thanks Robin !! you're the best !!!
