Hey everyone,I converted my 68 charger from manual to power brakes.I used a booster from a 68 newport,I think that is where my problem is so I thought I would post this up to see if anyone knows.I got the cantalever installed that goes between the brake peddle and booster. It seems like the rod on the booster that would hook up to the cantalever is about 3/4 of a inch too long.I have too much of a space between the master and the booster. Is a newport booster deferent from a charger booster?

Since you installed a booster from a "C" body car, the rod that comes out of the rear of that brake booster, that bolts up to the brake pedal is different.
You need to find the correct rod, and linkage for your particular application, or a complete booster from your body style car.

Ok cool ,now is there a differance between drum brake booster and disc brake?I think I should find out that before i do any thing else.

Ya, there is.
Drum brake cars used a Midland-Ross booster
and
Disc brake cars used a Bendix booster.

The newport was drum brakes,so the drum brake booster won't work even if I get the correct rod?

I should have stated my reply a bit differently.
My responce in the differences in boosters, is what your Charger would have been equipped with.
If you could locate the proper rod for your application, and install it in the booster that you now have, it would work.

I have no idea.
Never had any reason to take one out of a booster, and get measurements.

I ended up going to a friends house who has a midland and ross booster for a b body,I measrued the rod while it,s still in the booster.I got 3 1/4 in from the back of the booster to the center.I'm going to look for another booster and go from there unless I find a rod first.I'ts not JUST converting manual brakes to power like I thought. :brickwall:
