What is your preferred way to do this? The stuff the cylinder with 1/4 rope, then rotate until it locks way, or use air, and if so, how much psi do you use? If I do it this way, I'm just going to use the compression tester hose, and set the tank regulator to whatever psi is needed.

Long story, installed a Voodoo 302 camshaft in my 383, instantly had valve train noise (no, not exhaust) new lifters, new iron mopar rockers, no difference... only thing left is my "unknown" springs, that were put on by the machine shop when previous owner had the heads done....

btw I'm installing Comp 911 springs..

Thanks, JR

I have always used air...but make sure your piston is at TDC just in case valve is un-seated while removing springs...that way it won't fall into cylinder

we use about 60-75lbs of air pressure....

Once you remove the rocker arms it makes no difference where the piston is - the valve is closed.
put some air to it and if not on tdc it'll go to bdc ( it'll be fine there as well )

60 psi is enough

Yep, 60 psi is plenty & the 911 valvesprings will be fine  :2thumbs:

oh yes it does make a difference....if he takes off the valve spring and somehow either looses air pressure or un-seats the valve somehow...and if piston is not at TDC, then valve falls into cylinder.....then he calls you to come pull the head off because you said it won't matter

make sure piston is at top when doing springs on that cylinder...

I think pison at TDC would be smart and cheap insurance  :yesnod:

IMO..Use rope.

Something dumb happens to the air and your gonna drop the valve, enough rope and the piston at TDC and it wont drop.
