I assume you meant "lever"......if so, yes the steering wheel will need to be removed.

I think horn button will be enough and get a hole on wheel assembly matched with lever screw. I never tried really but at least on tuff wheel collar there is a hole that LOOKS TO MATCH with screw lever. Just an idea :shruggy:

Unless you drop the little retaining screw down inside the column.  :D

thanks for the tip, Ill try that

p.s. I went out to garage real quick and I guess that won't work. It looks like that steering wheel will have to be removed. Sprayed some rust penetrant on the big (looks like 3/4 in) bolt and let it sit for a while.

I did it on a 1969 with the stock wheel. I removed the horn pad and ring, then the mounting nut for the wheel, popped the wheel with the puller. Then you can see the switch. The lever is installed with a fairly long screw. It was a combo slot head/octagon that could come off with a socket if you had a skinny enough bit.

After removing the screw, place the handle in position. It has a lip that 'keys' it into place. Then get the screw into the mounting hole and tighten up. Its really simple with the hardest part being removing the wheel.

Put some threadlocker on that screw otherwise you'll be taking it back apart after a few days.  DAMHIK.

Great thread which will cover the replacement of the turn signal lever as well. We should all try and do posts like this when we do work to help out the next guy. I'm planning on doing mine in a few weeks.

Ok my turn signal lever is flopping around in the column and I just wanted to confirm that all I have to do to get to the lever is just remove the steering wheel?  I'm assuming that all I have to do is just tighten this long bolt?  Thanks in advance and sorry to hijack your thread, Silver...

Does anyone know what size or kind of screw is needed for the lever?

Mine was being held by what looks like a wood screw.  I tried lookin for a machines screw at the hardware store, but size 6 is too small, 8 too big.
