To refresh I have a 1969 Dodge Charger R/T SE 440, 727, 8 3/4 with 3.55 suregrip, bucket seats, was yellow with a green interior and green top :eek2: and its going to wind up as a metallic gun metal grey (its the same color available on the 2007 silverado, stole the code of my friends truck) with black interior.
I have bang out the dents stripped it naked, osphoed, primed it and started laying bondo and block sanding, the interior, engine bay and under side of the car are all in the gunmetal grey already, I have a painter/body guy to do my finish work and paint her for me, I have seen his work and known him for a few years.
But he will come into the picture later on.
Currently I'm in college doing a automatic transmition and a manual transmition/axle classes, they are separate classes both 6 weeks 2 day a week each 5 30 till 10pm. I am going to rebuild my 727 in class with I believe a TCI or B&M overhaul kit, shift kit, clutches, bands, bearings, seals everything I can replace, I have never ran the tranny but I am just going to get-er-done the kit is about $200, well worth it in my book.
I am also going to tear down my 440 while its out, I want to go threw it with a fine tooth comb check the bearings, cam, crank, pistons, check the head valves, push rods, replace the oil pump (because I want to and Ive ruined a rebuild because of a used oil pump so NO CHANCES), all new seals, paint the headers, and especially get all the part numbers and ma by gapless rings. The motor runs fine but I want to check it all anyway.
Hopefully I will be giving updates as I go, if I don't forget, ask questions if you'd like and ma by Ill upload some pictures sometimes, and don't forget, keep those big blocks running like immigrants!

Colleges have books.  Trade schools have transmission building classes. IMO. Keep up the good work!

We have both

Can some decode my trans and engine?
The trans numbers are pk3515845    3856      0732     with a small input shaft 24 spline and big input shaft of 27 splines
Engine number 2536430.10

Thanks im going to continue looking them up also, no luck yet.

Edit. Found date stamp 1/23/68 on the block, got the heads off, its on the engine stand ready to be torn down the rest of the way, maby monday I hope to be working fri-sun, should help boot the around $500 the rebuild will be with out new bearings, havent gotten far enough to check them yet

Well my 727 is a baby from a 340 or 318 I found out with its 3 disk clutch pack for reverse, any way I can beef it up? I alread put in a new B&M transmition kit in new clutches bands seals and a shift kit that i have installed yet, Im worried that the 500+hp that it will be put through it will break it like the weakling it is.
Also my 440 needs to be honed, crank needs to be polished, new cam, new rings, all new seals and bearings and pistons and rods, and maby either valves, and srpings or complete new aluminum heads
Now if I can easily help my tranny I will be looking for a new custom 6speed and modify my car to fit it, something that will idle around 75mph in 5th, 6th would be a paint peeler with maby a double clutch set up, but thats a ways off, long ways.

But In real news!
I layed some more bondo on her today, bought a new air inline sander, and removed the trunk inner rails on the sides where the trunk lid sits, they had rust between the metal so in the next few days I will be welding them back in and sanding down my mud and tommarrow that weak tranny should be done.

There are two 727 transmissions. The 727 (small block) has different bell housing bolt holes...and will not fit your big block.

Thanks tuf I heard the same thing today when I called Don today, Its all done I only have the shift kit left to do on it, but I dont know If I'm going to do street, heavy duty, or strip so I'm just going to wait until I figure it out, and still planning what to do with my 440 probably going to get it cleaned all up honed and crank polished and then wait for some body work to get done
if anyone has a proven blueprint theyd like to share I would appreciate it

Thanks to my 2 readers, haha.

I'm pretty sure all the 727 internals will interchange....but unfortunately a BB case will be needed to bolt up to a big block.

727 small block trannys are pretty rare because Chrysler switched over the the 904 lighter duty trans for most small blocks in the late 60's early 70's.

Early '70s C-Bodies, 70's/80's vans and trucks used 'em too... not too difficult to find.   Run across a few
