I am using an new older set of Isky Adj Rockers on my 440..I have Bought new Shafts with the oiling holes milled out from Hughes racing....and a new set of pushrods...However
Back in the day they would cut/grind the tabs on the factory shaft hold downs to fit between the wider Isky steel rockers..
Is this ok ?.......or is there a set of shaft hold downs from the aftermarket that would work with this setup?

Seems everytime you modify or upgrade something there is other parts that must get purchased also...maybe someday I get this motor installed
Thanks
Steve

I used the Hughes Hold Down kit, about $100 bucks if I remember.  I had to use some shims and lightly trim some of them but I am comfortable with them clamping the rocker arm down and reducing flex.  Dave

I've used the stock hold downs with ductile iron rockers...no problem. If you have to grind a bit off the side of the hold down go ahead and do it. Just make sure you have .015 side clearance to allow for thermal expansion.  ;)

This is what everyone did back in the day.  I like to put a shim between the rocker and holdown, and prefer spacers over the springs between the rockers.

The shim isn't a bad idea but with an iron rocker it isn't as necessary as with an aluminum body rocker. I allways used the springs as well....never a problem. Sure the newer hold downs and solid spacers are better for peace of mind but i wouldn't consider it a "must have"  ;)

Thanks Ron....Everything I read said OEM hold downs are good with a little grinding!....I will give that ago as my engine is not to radical at all....
I have the spring setup with these rockers and will use them as well

Hopefully in two weeks time when all other parts arrive I can finally install and get this thing fired up!..

Cant wait..its been a long 5 years!

If you're going to use the springs don't be concerned with the side clearance measurement....the springs will take care of that for you.  ;)

Just grind enough to center the rocker arm pad on the valve tip and you're good to go !  :2thumbs:

What cam are you planning to run in this beast ?  :icon_smile_big:

With the Iskys, the trimmed rocker hold down, and the springs, the reduced area where the rocker rubs the hold down will cause a slight grinding action at that interface and will lose a little metal.  That is why I recommend the shim stock.
