Ok I have the A833 trans. its for the b body. I need to get the linkage bars. I have the reverse one. Also i need the shifter adapter piece? The trans is out of a 88-89 truck. Its a 3 speed overdrive so its a 4 speed. I may have to post some pictures of it to show you more in detail. The old timer at the junk yard said it will work tho. I've noticed tho , one of the shifter things (3rd & 4th) is upside down from what i've seen on here. Does that matter? I need to find the 1st & 2nd gear linkage bar and 3rd & 4th Linkage bar. I'll be using the front shifter mount. Just gotta find that bracket that i need.
One more thing is the guy told me i need a freeze plug for the front of the trans where there is a hole underneath the spline is. Any thoughts or advice or help will be much appreciated! thanks!

Keep in mind im not going for that outta the factory perfection. Just trying to get this 4 speed in and working correctly! :)

That freeze plug retains the counter shaft arbor. You will need to install one before you put fluid in it.

The forward shift lever should be upside down.

You should be able to find all the parts you need at Passon performance.

Yea thats it probably! where the hell do i find one? Would my local parts store have one? Who ever knocked it out... well i think they knocked it inside of it. I"ll have to get the old one outta there first.

I still think you're talking about the countershaft plug

This goes in at the  bottom in the front of the tranny? The hole is about the size of a quarter maybe a lil bigger.

Rolling_Thunder

yep - about the size of a quarter - and goes in the front of the transmission...   this is only on the OD 4-speeds so that is why most people don't remember it. That keeps the fluid in the trans as the countershaft arbor is not an interference fit in the case like a regular 4-speed so the OD transmissions use these to prevent fluid loss.

question. When i stick my finger in the hole i can feel a gear or something and i can move it with my finger up and down. How do I go about taking the cover off to see inside it. I was gonna do it but wasn't sure about the linkage levers coming off or if i'd screw em up. Something does feel lose. When i sit the trans level on ground and go thru the gears and twist the front shaft the rear shaft in 4th gear really turns the same amount. When in 1st 2nd or 3rd It doesn't move the rear shaft as much. but i can also hold the rear shaft and spin the front and the back doesn't move when those gears. I noticed when i had it on its side and when through some gears some sounded wayyyy offf and it was rough moving it.

Hopefully i didn't get a bad tranny :(

QuoteI'll be using the front shifter mount.

If you use the front shifter mount you'll have to find a shifter that angles back about 12" or it will be one heck of a reach. The floor hump will also have to be custom.
