Trim Tags, Sequence Numbes and J Numbers???? I forget.

Trying to remember all the things that are on my Trim Tag and what each line has.

I actually remember everything except for the top two lines, which read...

05101  164866
   114  083  676

I know all the rest of the stuff is the body, powertrain, interior, and production codes.  i.e.C37D special order paint designator  and 26 for 26" radiator etc. etc. etc.

But I am trying to remember what I learned about the sequence number...

Am I mistaken or is the sequence number from the broadcast sheet 164866 number?  (I only have the lower left corner of my broadcast sheet - ergo NASCAR 2  (And wasn't NASCAR 2 only 37D/999 cars?)

And isn't the sequence number technically the broadcast sheet or "paperwork" number of the car as it started down the line.  In other words the sequence number and J number kind of go hand in hand to define the car?   J number sets aside the production line requirements - i.e. what the production team has to do to ensure the line is physically setup to build the car, and the broadcast sequence number is used to pull the variable parts or variable options for the car?

Sorry for being an old fogie - but the last time these had meaning to me were back in 1983 when I started the first restoration or salvage of my bird.

no correlation between sequences and J's.  I don't think there's any rhyme or reason to the sequences...

the second line you posted is the engine, axle and transmission codes--in that order.  those are the codes on the bcast sheets.

other colors had nascar #2 as well, and mine also says #2.

I'd have to look at the fender tag to see if it matches the sequence--isn't your car after mine?  my sequence is 170891.

On the top left of the tag, the first 5 number sequence is the "gate" number. In those 5 numbers, the first 2 designate what "gate" the car was going to  be formed up in. On a Superbird, almost all cars start with either 05,15, 29 as I recall. The next 3 numbers are the number that day that the specific car went through the referenced "gate". As I recall the counter started at 100 each day for the first car. I don't think I have seen a 3 number sequence over 200.

This is probably not true - but my older cousin was in the army with a guy who worked on the Superbird line after he got back from a tour of Germany.   He told my cousin that C37D was "console delete"  - that four speed cars were not to have a center console installed.   That being said, I think A) I've seen a 4 speed car with a console and B) didn't someone specifically document that the dealer had to enter C37D as the addendum color for 999 - i.e. C37D is the Corporate Blue color code?
