This is a question I been wanting to ask for a long time why  :shruggy: is everybody still using 40 year old wiring ??????
Why can't we up grade to newer stuff and eliminate voltage regulators in such!!
What the Hell-Dumass !

Fred

I'm guessing most of us want to keep it as original as possible.  :Twocents:
I've still got all original wiring in mine, it's as good as new. No need to mess with it.

Tomorrow is promised to no one.......drive your Charger today.

Back N Black

I have all new reproduction wiring, its money well spent on 40 year old cars. As for the voltage regulator, its either going to be on the firewall or in the alternator?

myk

Money, for starters.  I would love to ditch the ancient wiring that Joseph the carpenter used to work on as a side job; that IS my ultimate goal in regards to wiring.  If a car is intended for show I guess original wiring is fine, but if you're tooling around in your Charger like I am at the VERY LEAST get 'repro wiring-anything less is unsafe.  As for voltage regulators, are you talking about going internally regulated like on GM cars?  I'm all about modernizing these machines but hey, they are almost 50 years old.  Some things will have to stay outdated...

I did. I replaced the underhood wiring harnesses. Upgraded to a Nippondenso starter and internally regulated alternator and added a Mallory Hyfire ignition system. They all work great.  :2thumbs:

With what Painless and use every thing from a 78 something   :shruggy: or newer car ??!!

In my case, because I have the skills to fix my wiring, and one harness if you ask me is REALLY EXPENSIVE for what really worths in parts involved.

only reason I will buy a harness is the lack of correct colors and terminals down here where I live. And I think sooner or later will have to buy some harness to replace mines. My junkyard harness reserve is going down due I usually fix cars of some friends using my stock parts.

Rolling_Thunder

I dont...     I use Painless harnesses in my cars -  If I had known I would have done the ISIS system instead - might end up swapping over later on.

You sure man, I coulda sworn it said $400 something. Even at $700 it's still a worthwhile purchase in my opinion.  Imagine having wiring that's up to the strength and reliability of today's cars...

In my 67 Charger I just replace what's needed, and that's very little. A few connector terminals, add a few separate ground wires (instrumentation, tail light) to improve the function. And make sure all terminals are clean and nice. Check the insulation and fix as needed.
