Yesterday we sold our beloved '69 charger  :icon_smile_dissapprove: !WE had so much problem with her and run out of money to fix her up so decided to sell her to a good home!
I know a lot of you said i should think it over but it is for the best!We need money for getting our life better and family comes first!

We couldn't drive her anymore because of the new laws on cars with the special permit license! Now if you drive the car with that special permit you have to work at the dealership where the license plate was issued plus you have to be a mechanic to do that!Otherwise you can NOT drive the car!Last year it wasn't like that so having the car sitting in the garage is not an option, she had to go!

We got a fair deal, didn't loose money on her and had a pleasure having, driving her!I'm sure we will get an other one when the time and car is right!

We feel kinda sad but i know it had to happen this way!Believe everything happens for a reason! We learned from our mistakes and learned a lot about these wonderfull cars as well!Made some friends too so no regret!

Sounds cheese but my dream came true driving her on our wedding day!It almost didn't happen because of the gastank issue but it's history now!

Thanks everyone for your help!

how much was it and pics? Im curuious so I can guage it for my future purchase in summer.

cavemanno1

Thanks Fred!

1974dodgecharger,we are in Europe and the prices are different from the States!Let's just say we bought the car for $18000 plus the shipping, taxes, spare parts, renting a garage so everything was involved we calculated and aimed for that!We didn't buy her to make a profit but didn't wanna loose money either!
Ours was a rough driver with an awful paintjob with lots of bondo, bad interior, cracked screen and other issues!Guess payed too much for her! :shruggy:

It wasn't easy to sell her because of all these problem and i was upfront, honest to people who asked about the car!Well it took us a month to sell so maybe if we waited longer then could have got more for her!

But as i said we didn't do it for the money and it frustrated me and therefore my family having her!I stressed too much over this car and let her influence my mood toward people especially to my wife!I know i should have been cooler with it but when you have all your money into something that you can't enjoy then it's frustrating for me!If i could just register her and drive her while fix the problem would never sell her but unfortunately this country isn't a "free" country! In England and most European countries sure you can do it expect Austria i think but not here! :brickwall:  :brickwall: :brickwall:

'68-69 chargers start from 19000 euros but the good ones are like 29-30k euros!

For what we sold we could get a restored 383 or a nice driver 440 from the states! But again it depends on the price there!

One door closes and another one opens.
What a crap Law about the dealer plate etc, terrible situation, I'd struggle owning a car I couldnt legally drive

Well, as a mate of mine said to me when I sold a favourite car " A lot of people wanted to own one of those and you just did and most of them never will "

We are not too far behind you, especially here in California.  :brickwall:

You're always part of the Mopar family. Hope you both find happiness in your future endeavors.  :2thumbs:

Thanks guys and Lisa!I wish we could have got out of her as well but this life!We appreciate what we  had with her,she was part of our family!I'm going to the garage now and it's gonna be strange not to see her there! We have some nice memories with her especially on our wedding the summer and will get an other one for sure!As is said we learned from our mistakes and the next one will tick all the boxes that we need to get her a numberplate!

Funny, over here people's first question is how much you bought or sold it for!Well not funny because i think it's personal and I'm not digging into other peoples wallet either!

Thanks,

Peter

Uggghhhhh.... that sucks.  :icon_smile_dissapprove: :icon_smile_dissapprove:

So sorry to hear. You made the right decision though putting your family first. A car can be replaced down the road someday. Keep your spirits up.

Hi,

it sucks.
But I am wondering, too. Inspection in the UK (MOT) is pretty easy to pass. At least compared to many other european countries. When I bought my first Bee 20 years ago in England it was pretty rusty, had a completly worn front end and a brand new MOT

Even though I know it must have been extremely hard and probably a little emotional for you Peter, it sounds like you did the right thing. Once it becomes nothing but frustration and starts interfering with your personal life it's definitely time to let go. And as you say, we learn from past experience so there's no doubt you'll get it right next time.   :2thumbs:

So can wives....

Peter I don't exactly understand why you couldn't drive the car.
Was it because it wasn't roadworthy?
Gotta love a '69

cavemanno1

doctor4766!

The reason we could not drive her because she didn't have a numberplate! In order to get her a numberplate a 30+ year old car has to pass an inspection which is very strict! The car has to be in the condition like she rolled off the assembly line from the factory! Now ours would have needed to be restored fully to do that and we all now it takes skills or a lot of money and time which we have non of them!
The other way was to drive the car with a special numberplate that the car dealerships issue when people take their car out for a testdrive! We had that licenseplate from my father-in law but they changed the law regarding these plates because too many people were using it way it wasn't meant to be like us!Now you have to work in that dealership plus have to be a mechanic to do use that plate! So there it went our chance to drive her legally!

This really was my fault because i didn't do my homework regarding this special inspection test but mostly we wanted a charger bad and could not afford a restored one!I work in England and i knew their inspection is very easy to pass just has to be roadworthy and has to have correct lights and correct indicator colours! So i thought since Hungary was in the EU all regulations roughly the same!
I phoned the inspection office up over here in Hungary and they said the car has to be number matching with date correct paint code and that's it!Didn't say anything about being the way it was 43 years ago!So i thought i called up the right authority and learned what was needed! That was a big mistake because i should have talked to someone else and hear more information!

We passed a really nice car a beautiful '69 4 speed charger that was done properly but she wasn't number matching so had to let her go!We still regret that decision!

But i believe everything happens for a reason even if we don't understand it yet!

So couldn't drive her legally had no money or skill to restore her and needed the money for my family!

Hope i answered all the questions! If we lived in England where the car only has to be roadworthy we would have never sold her!Now we decided to move from here because of the new government and get a better life! There is no future here!Imagine earning 500 euros a month then the government takes 55% of it as tax then you have to pay all your bills, food, school for your kids and such! From 250 euros you have to manage it!In Austria, next to us,their minimum wages is 1200euros and its their minimum wages!!!Compare that to an average wages of a Hungarian 250euros!

I used to live in your country worked in Melbourne on the Formula 1 Grand Pree,in Sydney,Brisbane,Darwin and Cain!Lived in the States as well and i know the difference between these countries and mine!Even tho you guys are not always happy with your government but at least if you work hard and not a lazy ass then you can provide a decent life for your family!Over here there's no chance and nothing is more important to me then my family!I'm sorry i got derailed over here!

Thanks,
Peter

Eh, those words are lost on the people that need to understand that idea.

'OP, looks to me like you just need to regroup and reinvest in another car-good luck with everything...

Peter,

Those rules also apply in South Australia (for registering a LHD vehicle). They totally suck and I understand your pain. Not too many people understand the reason behind people's decisions until you explain it over and over again. That is why I was tired of hearing "don't convert it to RHD, you'll devalue the car!" But for me to drive it on the road AND have the car I want it HAD to be converted. At least we have that option here!

Look on the bright side...you have had a car for less time than I have, but at least you got to drive it and experience the car for what it is....and it will be in your memories by having it in your wedding! Mine is still on axle stands waiting for the year to get back on the road
Make it idiot proof, and somebody will make a better idiot!

If you think Education is difficult, try being stupid!

I'm with you on that Rallyemike!

This country needs that because they just can't let you live here!Another example!

In England you pay 5% tax when you import a classic car,in France you pay 7%!In Hungary you have to pay 25% import duty  :brickwall: +25% other made up taxes!so my $18k car(+shipping cost )would have cost me 50% more of what i payed for if i wanted to get her taxed here! It's mad :flame: :flame:
What do they think! So we got here taxed in France for 7%!

We are sure gonna get an other one when the time is right and as you guys said we at least had one and it was our dream!Driving her was a unbelievable experience!I'm a bit sorry and i could see her if i want to,which i don't,because she is only 3hours drive from me in Vienna!

Thanks,
Peter
