In a road trip in my 2004 Ram. About 200 miles out the the warning chime sounded, the brake warning lamp came on as well as the ABS and service engine light and the speedo is erratic or not working. Truck is still running OK pulling a trailer . Don,t have my scanner with me, ideas?

Before I left I had the steering knuckles off to change ball joints and one hub bearing. The side with the sensor was changed about 5000MI. AGO. I checked the wires for damage none visable.

Update: ABS sensor in rear axle broke and leaked about half the lube on the truck and trailer. Replaced sensor in parking lot of truck stop. Pulled pan and changed the lube/cleaned out. Minor amount of stringy plastic stuff in rear end. Remains of ABS sensor , I guess. Not leaking, but still no speedo or cruise control. ABS, Brakes, and check engine light still come on the first time you hit the brakes after start up.  Rear axle has some noise now ,drove 600 miles after repair, not getting worse, have 1000 mile pull home to get thru. :flame:

Still show a 501 code ...VSS out of range.  ?  New sensor bad? Trans out put sensor bad?

That sucks. When my ABS light came on it was just a bad sensor - it didn't cause any other damage and my speedometer worked fine. Of course, mine was a 1999 and I'm sure things are more integrated now. Did you happen to clear the codes once you got the new sensor installed?

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Reseated the ABS sensor. (working in a garage now) Was not fully seated on my roadside repair. Everything works now  :2thumbs:

Cleaned the rest of the plastic and brass wire , looked like brass wool, from the end of the sensor that fell into the diff, was hidding in the spyder gears. New lube, quieter now.

My fellow wizzards and I feel we can drive the 1000 miles home after bike week. Will do a tear down inspection /repair there.

Sometimes I think my 40 year old Charger is the most dependable car I own.
