Can I pour acid on my rusty plow??

I have an EZ Mount Meyers snow plow. It's a tubular mount that you push into the frame and put 2 pins in to keep it on for the winter season. It's been rusted fast ever since I've owned it-about 5 yrs now. I really would like to get it off!! My truck took a dump on me and I bought another one. I would like to put the plow on my new truck. I tried wrapping a chain around it and hooking the other end to a truck and  "tugging" it off. It didn't budge. I've been soaking it in PB for about 2 days now and tried beating it with hammer. It's still stuck fast. I have the entire plow & mount off the truck now. I was wondering if I pour some acid on the tubes would that eat the rust away and free it up to pull it off? Or is this a bad idea?? Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!!

I would stay away from the acid.  I don't think it will help.  Stick with the PB blaster.  Keep soaking it down daily for about a week minimum.  Then break out the torch to heat it up a bit.  Liberal use of a big hammer too.  I have seen people go through hell trying to get rusted together boat exhaust manifolds apart.  Usually the PB blaster does the trick.  You just have to keep spraying it and waiting.

If it were still on the truck, you could get a good pull on it, such as a come-a-long or another vehicle or whatever... heat up the outside tube and then use a short stroke air chisel with a punch attachment. That will put a good vibration on it and probably pull apart. A long stroke air chisel is stronger but it might bend the outside tube pushing it in against the inside piece if you're not careful.

Phosphoric acid is usually good for breaking rust but can be nasty to work with if you're not careful.

the old timers used to use plain old brake fluid. i've tried it in the past with mixed results. another can of voodoo i've used was freeall. i've had better luck with that than pb blaster but its hard for me to find. hard to beat the smith wrench with a big rosebud

Back when I was in my teens I worked in a truck shop for a tree trimming company. The old guy in the shop would always use a rosebud and get it cherry red and then poured water on it. He always said "Water creates rust and it can break rust"

Hello,
I have a Meyer and have worked on several others.
I have found tubes to be bent down and by lifting the mount with a
cherry picker that has helped when pounding them back out, a little harder to
do with the whole unit off the truck.  Also on the bottom of the tubes where
you put the locking bolts I have found broken off bolts in the threaded hole and
someone put another bolt in, had to look close to catch that one. One time I used a
cut off wheel to slit the outer tubes to get one out, but that would be the last resort.
I only had to cut back about to the pin hole.  I made the cut about half way between the
pin hole and the bottom between 4 and 5 o'clock and 6 and 7 on the other side. 
I clamped a copper pipe to the inside of the cut in the tube when I welded the slit to
keep clean up grinding to a minimum.

Thanks for all the replies! Unfortunately, I do not have a torch. I can't find Free All so bought a can of Freeze Off. Hopefully that will work!

i'm from the rust belt. old timers that worked at the john deere dealership had to work on old tractors. they sit outside most of the time. i was told this and i still don't know if this works, but with that said- they would heat up old outside bolts and while it was still hot-and to what degree i dont know- would take a candle and melt the wax on the bolt. the theroy is that the wax will coat the threads and get inbetween the threads of the bolt and whatever its into. then they could break it loose. fact or fiction? i dont know. but hey' your stuck. couldnt hurt to try some crazy shit. make a great bar story
