New Puppy for Xmas (We Were Good in 2011)

We have welcomed the newest member of the family. Lily is her name and she's a rescue dog. 11 weeks old and had a miserable life until we found her at the SPCA shelter.

She's a Catahoula Cur (aka Louisiana Leopard Dog) and has a way cool personality. Already climbing on rocks and chasing the cats.

It was all we wanted for Christmas and Santa helped get her to us.

Lily is a really good looking dog.

The ones that are rescued are usually the most grateful for a new loving home.
And the wide open spaces of your pad, oh my god that dog probably thinks it died and went to doggy heaven.

Beautiful and cute dog and very good of you to rescue a pet out of a shelter rather than buy one from a breeder.
He will be your loving companion for the rest of his life!

I have never heard of that breed but she is absolutely gorgeous.  I'm sure she'll be much loved and she'll give plenty of love in return.

Thanks guys for the nice words. She's been spayed, as we harbor no illusions about breeding and selling pups. Fix your pet and fix the problem, yes indeed.

Her name Lily is short for Mariposa Lily. Which is a rare flower that grows here in the Sierra Nevada, growing in remote rocky wilderness. And we found her in the near-by town of Mariposa, so the name just sort of happened to fit right.

Often called Leopard Dogs, their coats and colors are very distinctive. The Catahoula is an amazing breed, the southern good-ol-boys on this site will be able to tell some great stories. The dogs are tough and athletic, with a many centuries old background, being North America's only native breed of dog. They are loved by ranchers and outdoorsmen everywhere and are the designated State Dog of Louisiana (I think the only state to so honor a canine - and when you are around them you know why the Cajuns love them).
