Dog dish caps on a 68 Charger

Were dog dish caps ever offered on a 68 Charger or is this just something that people decided looked cool after the fact? If they were offered on a 68 which ones would you say are correct? If they weren't offered, which ones would you say are most correct?

I got a 68 Hemi Charger up here with doggy caps....owner says it came that way...I don't know what style is on there...it's been a long time since I saw the car

They are not listed as an option, so I would say no.

I recall some members buying this style from Year One (I think).



Then there's these things, which I think are more understated and look a little better but are maybe a Plymouth thing.



And then these with the holes, which kind of looks like a 1973-74 thing. I'm not a fan.



I think these may have been used to make fake UFO sighting pictures in the 70s. Ugly!



The dog doesn't seem to care which one is used.

Here is the standard '68 Charger hub cap (aka "dog dish") for a 15-inch R/T with a Hemi. It is the same standard hub cap used for the 14-inch wheel. The other styles that you showed I really don't think were original equipment (but they do look good).

Another thing, if you get a flat how do you get them off without scuffing your wheels?

Um, you don't.   Typically you would use a screwdriver or the other business end of the lug nut wrench to pry it off. Just don't get a flat....

That's what I use, just put a little piece of cardboard under the lever.

I suppose one of these might work.

decided  to make  my own to fit exact  ,  out of two bits of metal !! , flat bar & angle welded togeather  , bit of hammering & bending to shape  , brown insulating tape !  because ,  never use that color & was only going waste !
spare crocodile clip insulating cover i had laying around ! not really needed but that was going to waste also  

no pulling & leavering required with this tool ! its soo thin it slides right up between the hub cap  & the start of the wheel  nub, lug thing that holds the cap on    , all thats required it a tiny twist/tweak of the tool   & cap pops off  the area marked in green ( other side if your twisting counter clockwise ))  is the only part that touches  the wheel & then its under the hub cap  
no chipping or marking of the wheel either

A brake adjusting tool (spoon) works just fine.  I simply put a rag between the tool and the wheel to keep from scuffing the paint.

Believit or not ny Boston Terrier has the exact same hub caps for his food. the water one disapppeared into his dpg house though....

I found a local hubcap place that has several different kinds of Mopar dog dish styles but I have a couple of questions. First, what is a fair price to pay for good used ones? Second, is there any size difference between dog dish caps for 14" and 15" wheels?

The stock 14-in and 15-in dog dish caps that came standard on the '68 Charger are different part numbers, so they should not interchange. The 14-in wheel dog dish cap is part number 2768007, while the 15-in wheel dog dish cap is part number 1943733. The stock 15-in wheels were only used on Hemi equipped Coronet and Charger R/T's. These part numbers came from The Paul Herd Restoration book.

The 2768007 part number is the same for all '68 b-body Dodges 14" & 15" - the "dog dish" was STANDARD - everything else was OPTIONAL $$

Sew, one could order an R/T with 14" road wheels (Magnum 500) unless it had a Hemi. Something new to me.
