I have a set of "castled" nuts to be used on piston rods. Some advantage over the stock ones ? These were barelly used on an engine maybe 2 or 3 weeks.

I'll bypass the discussion of origin and say that all else being equal, the castellated nuts may be lighter.  :shruggy:

ok, these are a little bit higher than the originals, so what loose on cuts, wins on height :shruggy:

I always go with a new set of ARP bolts and nuts.....cheap insurance for the weakest link in the chain.

True "castellated" nuts are intended to be used with cotter pins in which case they're reusable indefinitely.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Nacho-RT74

I thought they were kinda conical and the castellated area was made to make some pressure over the threads like a spring

nope, its for a cotter pin to be able to sit in one of the grooves and not allow the nut to spin. :2thumbs:

Nacho-RT74

Ok, well, will use them anyway. They are taller so more threads being involved on torque

Unfortunatelly one rod got the studs slightly damaged on first 2 because couple of the nuts had some small nick on threads, but nothing to worry. Tapped the nuts and everything fine with them now
