Hi guys ... I know I know I've been sort of MIA, but every now and then I come around and read.

Hoping you can help me come up with a price... I had an extra 440, so we rebuilt it.  Nothing fancy, most of it is stock.  The cam gears are not stock, which makes us think the cam isn't stock either, although it's not radical.  It has a Weiand aluminum intake manifold (slight high-rise but not much), and fancy Mopar valve covers!

After we built it, we dyno'd it over at Sturdy engines http://www.sturdyengines.com/   Wanted to run it 4 or 5 times, but ran out of time so only got 2 runs.  It posted 379 HP and 457 ft lbs torque.  They figure by the 4th or 5th run it would reach 390 HP... but what do they know?  haha

What should I ask for this thing?  Block code is:  2535430  Heads are:   2848908 Thanks!

What year is the engine? I've been keeping my eyes open for a '69...

If it were mine I would ask $1500 + parts and machine cost to rebuild :Twocents:

1970 Plymouth Duster FM3

I don't know.  I intend to get the numbers off the block and decode, but I haven't done it yet.

Post the numbers if you don't mind.  I have my eye out for my car's long lost matching block.

I'm not looking at this as a 2nd income opportunity - I just want to price it fairly.  I overpaid for the "project car" that it came with, so I don't want to screw myself twice.  Once was probably good.  ;-)

My engine is a similar build and i dont remember exactly but i think it cost me around $3,150 to build.

Weird, I have had several in the classifieds for almost a year and haven't had any interest at all. I think I have 4 spares. Perhaps I should rebuild them as the only engine I have managed to sell was all fresh and new...

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Did you hear something?  Oh, nevermind.  Just people rushing to the classifieds.   ;)

FWIW - I sold a 440 freshly rebuilt about 2 or 3 years ago for $3500 with a flywheel, bellhousing, and 4-speed trans...     granted the economy was complete shit at that point -  but it was a similar build...

I have a 73-74 standard bore, 440 short block for $300 if anyone needs a good not rusty clean start for a build. Cast crank motor.
Bought it for a spare but no longer need it. No hijack intended.... :popcrn:

Block code is 2535430  Head code is 2848908.

I haven't found anything that matches those codes exactly, but it appears to me that it's a 66-72 RB block, and the heads are from the same era.  Can anyone confirm??  Thanks!

More than likely the block's casting number is 2536430, and the cylinder heads' casting number is 2848906.

The most important information is the casting date and the characters stamped on the machined ID pad to the right of the distributor.  That'll help a lot in establishing a value.
