Where does the vacuum advance hose connect?

(1969 Charger, 318, automatic, stock 2 bbl. Carter carburetor)

Does it connect to the carburetor or directly to the intake manifold?

Currently it is connected directly to the manifold; i.e., there is a large outlet on the manifold for the hose that connects to the brake power booster, and there is a thin outlet which branches off from that large outlet; this is where the vacuum advance hose is connected.

My mechanic doesn't think this current "full vacuum advance" setup is right. He thinks the vacuum advance hose should be connected to the outlet on the carburetor (which is currently blocked off with a short piece of hose and screw).

connects to carb, a port on the side I think.......it will not have vacuum at idle..only when opening the throttle. It should not be connected to intake manifold

What is the small outlet that branches out from the big brake power booster outlet on the manifold for (the outlet that the vacuum advance hose is currently connected to)?

I'm gonna say either cruise control or AC control hose if yer car has AC

most that had that extra little nipple on the booster check valve had it capped off anyway

This isn't on the booster check valve, it is on the large metal outlet that comes out of the intake manifold itself. This is where the brake power booster hose connects to manifold vacuum. It has a small diameter metal outlet that branches off from it, which is what the vacuum advance hose is currently connected to.

My motor seems to be a transplant from the early or mid '70s, so I don't know if it came out of a car with A/C and/or cruise control or not.

ok...that one is usually capped off as well...or it goes to the AC vacuum controls in the car...either way, dist is not supposed to be connected to that port...only the port on the carb off the passenger side of it

Connects to "Ported" vacuum source. This means only when the throttle is "Tipped" in, there is vacuum, once the throttle is mashed at WOT, there is no vacuum.

Hooking to manifold vacuum will not work properly.

How many nipples are on the fitting on the manifold? The big one is for the booster the next biggest one is for your headlights. If you have a third you car probably has a/c.

Mine is center front (rad side) of the carb at the base where it connects to the intake. And what he says about the vacuum..

I have a 69 RT and on mine there are 3 taps on that port. One to the power brake booster, one to the headlight system (can under the battery?) and one through the firewall to the Heater/AC controls.

Just the main outlet for the booster, and one small outlet branching off from it. I'll connect my headlight doors hose to it; maybe they'll work better than the last time I tried them (they worked before, but very slowly; and then they didn't close on their own when the lights were shut off [or if they did, it was very slowly]). Before it was on a second port on the bottom back side of the carburetor that angles toward the passenger side.

My car was originally an A/C car, but the motor is a transplant, and I don't think it came out of an A/C car. When I got the car there were still some remnants of the A/C system connected to the firewall and inner fenders, but nothing A/C-related on the motor itself.

mine is on the front as well....but he has a 2bbl carb....ported vacuum source is on the passenger side of the carb

the ported vacuum is correct
Manifold vacuum is under the throttle plates & is highest with the throttle closed
ported vacuum is above the throttle plates under the venturi so it increases with air speed through the carb .
not knowing what kind of carb you have , I didn't any post with that information in it . I cannot tell you where to look for it but it will have Zero vacuum at idle & appear to do nothing ,this allows more advance with increased throttle
