Knowing how they sat on lots for years, I'd walk into a lot in 1972 or 1973 and pick up - if available, of course - a '70 Charger R/T, Hemi or 440 Six-Pack, 4-speed, Dana 60 or a '70 Superbird equally equipped. That is, if price is still a factor.

going by price and practicality..i would probably buy my first charger new, A 74 SE 318 with that cool black cloth interior and the split bench seat and the topper type roof. difference would be i would go for a metallic grey or silver. I don't know what the options were in 74. if i could have that car new today i would drive it till i die! by far the nicest handling and driving car Ive ever driven. it was like driving a fast caddy with good gas mileage and it was cool! I loved everything but the rust lol.
If i could afford it i would have gone to a 360 4bbl and the SE broham model

2013 SRT-8.  Black or silver with red interior, 8-speed ZF transmission.

O wait...I CAN walk into a dealership and buy a brand new Charger!

Well, I imagine if that we "really" true, there would be no reason to ponder the original question, now would there?

You'll note the O/P didn't ask: "if you could walk into a dealerhsip and order whatever Dodge is throwing the "charger" badge on these days, what would it be?".........

Please, don't make me go over the sedan forums and counter-troll.....

Go ahead!  Since I'm not on the LX forums, It would make no difference to me one way or the other.

In any case, its not trolling if its true, my friend.  You can go into any dealer and order a brand new Dodge Charger.  You may not like the fact that its called a Dodge Charger...but Dodge Makes it and they badged it as a "Charger" so...its a Dodge Charger.  The '87 Charger 2.2 was ALSO a Dodge Charger as was the '77 luxo-barge.

In any case.  If I could walk into a dealership and buy ANY Charger new...it would STILL be a new SRT-8 with the 8-speed transmission.  Its faster, quicker, handles better, and is more luxurious than any Charger ever built.

I ain't got time for pain, the only pain I got time for is the pain i put on fools how don't know what time it is.

If that's really what you want, then it's cool... One thing is for sure, what it lacks in style is made up by its longevity and rust prevention measures from Dodge

Knowing what I know today, a Hemi Daytona 4 Spd car. But realistically a T5 R/T SE 4 Spd car, fully loaded except sunroof. White top, interior and stripe. Still not sure I want the Hemi?
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

Nothing you posted changes the fact that the original poster did not have that car, whatever dodge calls it, in mind when making this thread.  You knew that, and you trolled the thread anyway.  You may not like the fact that you were called on it, but you were.

And admittedly, I took the bait.  Doen't make what I posted wrong, just means I was one of the only ones to square you away, everyone else just ignored you.  Admittedly, they were the smart ones.

Where did that ignore button go...... :P

How do you know what the original poster had in mind?

Forgiveness is a wonderful thing! We didnt like the fact that the Charger name was going on a sedan, but it did, and it was a long time ago now. Lets move on people. Whats done is done.

BTW, I did walk in to a Dodge dealership and buy a new Charger, three years ago. It's a better full size sedan than what Chevy and Ford were offering, and at a better price. Consistant with what Dodge has done since it's beginning.

Can we get over it now please.

My dad tried to talk me into a 70 - 500 - 318 A/T car.  Bought a 70 Roadrunner instead.  As for a Charger:     1970, R/T SE, 440 six pack, 4 speed, 3.54 dana, Go Mango, white buckets with buddy seat, white vinyl top, PS, PB (Discs), am/8 track and power windows.
Superbird Bob - 426 Hemi, 4 Speed, 3.54 Track Pack

Trolling?  Perhaps.

I will admit to getting some enjoyment out of raising the hackles of the "not a real charger" crowd.

In this case, however, I actually posted the truth.  I really can't think of a Charger that I would rather own new than the current SRT-8.

Would I sell my '70 R/T in order to buy one?  Nope. Aside from having a certain amount of sentimental value to me, I can't buy a new '70 R/T so really, the point is moot.  That being said...there is not a single Charger built between 1966 and 1988 that comes anywhere close to matching the new car in terms of performance.

If that bugs you, hey...don't shoot the messenger.  If you want to ignore me, go ahead but I can't help you with the location of that "ignote user" button.  I've never used it.  There have been members that made me consider it, but in the end, I've always likened it to sticking my fingers in my ears and shouting "LALALALALALALA I CANT HEAR YOU!!!!"

I ain't got time for pain, the only pain I got time for is the pain i put on fools how don't know what time it is.

69_500

Well it would be a Daytona for sure. If I was to order it would be Q5 with black interior and a 4 speed.

You guys that have posted so far that you could not get a Hemi in a RT/SE in 1969. Only one engine choice for RT/SE in 69.

I'd walk in to the dodge dealership.... then walk over to my friends at plymouth  and order that Petty blue Hemi 4 speed Superbird they never made.
