67 440 magnum 915 heads

Ok I just recently read an article from mopar muscle about these heads and wanted to see what everyone thought. Basically these were cast just before the infamous 906 heads, and thus have very very similar flow characteristics, but on the flip side to this is the fact that they are closed chamber heads.  I was curious what would be the benefit to using these heads on a slightly modified car. Like a 383 with headers and a cam?

They were the factory head to have not very long ago. They may not be in as high of demand anymore with all of the aftermarket heads now available. They will still make good power with a properly set up engine. The decision becomes how much money will it take to set them up vs just buying aftermarket heads. Basically the 915's closed chamber head provides for better quench when combined with a zero or nearly zero deck piston. Due to the smaller combustion chamber the compression ratio would also be raised over a 906 open chamber head engine. I have a bare set that I am getting from a friend just to keep around.

BTW: The 906 is really the first of the "emissions" heads and has no real advantage over any head from the '70's like the 346 or 452. In fact, the 452's are probably the best of the post 915 heads due to the factory hardened exhaust valve seats. 

Some of the more experienced engine guys here can give you better info I am sure.
