I Started To Change The Oil In A Couple Of My Cars...

I had the wife buy a couple 5qt containers of Castrol 5-30w & 10-30w oil for her PT Cruiser & my '94 Dakota a couple of weeks ago. She grabbed 2 containers right off the shelf where all the oil is. I changed the oil in the PT last Sunday, her car takes the 5-30w...all went well...good for another 3,000 miles...

we went to the swap meet today in the Dakota because it has the wheelchair carrier for the wifes electric wheelchair....we got home and since the truck was good & warm and I needed to change the oil in it...I got it up in the air, pulled the plug on the pan, drained the engine, put plug back in, put pan under oil filter and changed it out....again, all good so far...

Here is what happened next....put the truck back down on the ground, unscrewed oil filler cap, went over to my workbench to get the 10-30w oil that the wife bought 2 weeks ago, put funnel in valve cover, un-screwed cap on oil container and it was not "new" oil...it was someones old oil that they drained out of their vehicle and returned to the place where she bought it. They painstakingly cleaned up the outside of the white plastic container like new.

So with my truck sitting halfway in the garage, I had to run up to local auto part store to get new oil...$28 later  :brickwall:

She's gonna try and see if they will do anything tomorrow, but I doubt it....

I guess that's what this economy is doing to a lot of people.

Sorry for the rant....

Good info, but you are probably right, they will do nothing.

Be glad it was at least some kind of oil. The last 5 qt container of oil I bought from Walmart had water in it.  :pullinghair:    :RantExplode:

At least I caught it before I poured it in the car.  I don't buy oil from Walmart anymore.

God must love stupid people; He made so many.

Restoring a charger is like a saying I heard along time ago "I never said it would be easy, I only said it would be worth it".... Jesus I wish I could remember who said that...

I used to work at AutoZone dude...   that crap happens more than you think...        I ALWAYS checked any returned oil...       caught quite a few people doing something similar...

thanks for the heads up!

I guess while we're buying the oils we need to look at the "safety" ring and be sure it hasent already been seperated.

That too can fool you...I have seen sealed bottled water that had Vodka or Gin in it.
There is trick to put "sealed" caps on anything plastic. :Twocents:

the jug I opened was not recycled oil...it was so black, I suppose I could have sold it back to the Arabs as dinosaur goo

the foil cover on the top was tore open....they went to a lot of trouble to get their money back

Wife got back from her shopping trip this morning...the store exchanged it with no problem, she said that the customer service people kept apologizing the entire time...

still pisses me off that I had to pay an extra $11 for the same oil at my local Schucks store up here...plus my time...which ain't worth much anyway
