I'm worried about my valve seals on the heads. My motor sat for about 6 years after it was rebuilt. I didn't rebuild it, the guy I bought the car from had it built. Most of the 6 years the motor had sat outside under a patio cover. the motor didn't have the valve covers on or the oil pan. So last year I took it too a shop and had them hot tank it and reasseble it. I don't think they put new valves seals.

Now I'm finially getting ready to close her up. This is my first engine build so I'm being anal about everything.
Do you think my valve seals are fine or should I replace them?

Chryco Psycho

good question , why type of seal was used , are they still soft or are they brittle now , if they are soft you should be fine

In order for me to check that, do I have to remove one of the springs. I can't see them right now with everything on.

Chryco Psycho

you maybe able to poke through the spring with a small screwdriver depending on if theyare the steel body type seal , if they are I bet they are ok anyway

Just checked seals, they are still soft! Thank god
