Has to do with the trim codes.

Troy

the code for wheel well moldings is missing.
It's also an XS coded for a 383.
Seeking information on '69 St. Louis plant VINs, SPDs and VONs. Buld sheets and tag pictures appreciated. Over 3,000 on file thanks to people like you.

Troy, this was your glaring omission?  ;)  I was looking for something more sinister, I guess....  :D  Let's see if the owner responds to my body and tranny stamping questions.

This car was/has been for sale all summer on craigs list. IIRC it was in the mid west. In the CL ads the asking price was in the 30k range. Also, I believe it was a private sale at that point. This ad looks like it's now being offered through a consignment or possibly someone trying to flip it.

Either Xs or Xp , the tags cannot have have the same shipping code , so at that point in my humble view the tag providence just hit an Iceberg .
And so with that point of view all I can say is Thanks to Dan for raising the issue and having the facts to back it up.
We are all ( generally ) enthusiasts on here and also ( generally ) regard ones word - or info as being true and correct and expect the same of others and do not entertain those who do not seek to do the same. If an attempt is made to conceal , distort or fabricate history on a car then prepare to be undone by those with the true facts.

I'm fairly hot on this because I'm an non U.S. resident that has just brought a car whose numbers checked out after the inspection, and had the good fortune of dealing with a solid bonafide U.S citizen who was straight up during the whole process, and I commend him on his ethics and conduct. I also used a very experienced inspection agent, it was not cheap but it also had peace of mind for the fact that the car was what it purported to be.
I would hate to be in the position of buying a car off somewhere that had a tag that just didnt stack up or was some cobbled together re-body of dubious salvedge history or theft

I just heard back from the seller - he said he will post pics of the radiator support and trunk stamp stampings, and that the transmission is from a '69....

That is a great looking Charger.
Is that shifter correct? Did 68s have any kind of cover over the taillights (inside the trunk)?

Shifter should be white (from what I know), and no tail light cover.

That's an Inland shifter and would have been correct for an early 68 car (and yes, it would have a black knob). No cover over the taillights in 68.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.
