Hi you all, well I have had this unit for quite some time now. It's one of the main pieces to my charger. My old brake master was shot.. so I went out and bought a new one a few years back. Well to my surprise the new one also came with I think a silver plunger as well in side it.

Now the thing is this, my old brake plunger is shot as well

Now how do I get that old plunger off the old push rod

So that I can put the old push rod onto the new plunger?

So that I can reinstall the master brake back into my charger. I mean my cousin and I was litterly down on the ground feet to feet with each of use having a very good hold to two parts and tried to pull them apart with no dice. I know there had to be a way to get that little silver plunger off of there. Can someone please tell me how? I was thinking of taking a grinder, and just grinding it flat on one side down to the push rod and popping it off like that.

terrible one

There is a thick plastic clip that goes around the end of the pushrod and locks it into the plunger assembly. It's a pretty tight fit installing, but I've never tried to uninstall before. I will tell you that if you hit it with the torch for a sec it will melt the plastic lock/retainer and the pushrod will come right out. If you don't want to do that, maybe just chuck the plunger part up in a vice and pull on the pushrod with all your might!  :P

the brake rod will come out....

put the brake pushrod in vise so aluminum plunder is about 1/4" out the side of vise...get 2 large screwdrivers and pry plunger off rod useing vise edge as pivot points....

mine was held in with what looked like a small piece of vacuum hose on the end of rod...you should have gotten one with new master

If you have a floor jack, remove the cradle and shove the "eye" end of the pushrod down through the hole, then stick a long screwdriver under the jack frame and through the eye and jack away.

The retainer is a short piece of rubber tubing but when it ages it becomes hard plastic.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Now that is a great method!

I just wanted to say "thank you"  :2thumbs: to you all that have replied with answers.

I knew there was something in there holding the rod back. I had the new brake master for quite a while now an was always trying to finger out how to get the old push rod off the older unit plunger to use with the new brake master. I knew if anyone would know, it would be one of you all.  :2thumbs:

Hi Jim.  I have that exact same master cylinder setup.  Does your car have manual disk front / drum rear?  You will see in my earlier post that I cannot figure out if I have the right set up on my "creatively engineered" charger.  Thanks.

PS -  I too could not figure out how that damn rod pulled apart!!
