Hmmm....bought new 6 x 9's a while back for my 73...didn't even think that they could be anything else.  I finally pulled the single rear speaker and its a 6 x 8...didn't even know they made that size!  :RantExplode:  However it looks like there are also mounting holes for 6 x 9's, but that would leave a lip of metal projecting over the top a bit.  Anyone dealt with this?   :shruggy:

Wow...that is crazy...I haven't taken the passenger's side apart yet...my defogger is over there.   Thanks for responding to my question.

I am trying to get my stereo hooked up finally.  Just took the CB mount out from under the dash yesterday.  I am striking out in the speaker department.  I also bought som 6.5" door speakers and am disappointed to find that if I wish to put them in my doors (I was willing to cut my old plastic door panels to the stereo Gods) I'd apparently have to cut the steel too.  I have some smaller speakers I may try to mount elsewhere....perhaps where the dash speaker is...if I can get at it without pulling the windshield.

Fortunately I will have something nice to listen to soon.  My 71 340 should be back from the machine shop :popcrn: next week or the week after  :2thumbs:

Try putting some angled speaker boxes under the seats. Probably not the best sounding but better then cutting holes in the door panels.

there are nice REPRO blower/speakers adaptors to be able to keep both on same location... make a search. It's a repro of an original part what wasn't an option on B bodies though, but yes on E and C... works on Bs too.

yes there is room there for 2 3.5" speakers at least ( has been already done ) I think even to 4". Lot of ppl has done a mounting plate to fill and fit both speakers into the original 10x4" hole there. including some angled to make a nice true stereo effect

and yes, it's posible without remove windshield

Thanks!  I like the idea of using the dash mount and those brackets are just the trick.  I was going to try to cut one out of some chip board I have but at that price prefab is the way to go.  I can focus on the rest of the install while I wait for it to come in.  :yesnod:

Can anyone tell me if I will have luck getting the dash speaker out without pulling the windshield?

Nacho-RT74

you will have luck ;)

just need the small square rachet with a long rachet extension, maybe with a cross. 1/4 socket to reach the 4 windshield vents screws ( take care to not let them go through the air vent LOL, I suggest tome grease on socket to keep the screw somekind glued to the socket... or glue ) and three phillips screws around the speaker grill close to the dash pad and volia, you are done, will get access to the speaker.

you'll get this out of the dash:

BTW, the 5x8 rear speaker screws location DOESN'T MEET the actual 5x8 speakers locations ( BTDT ) I found and fit NOS Mopar 5x8 speaker, but all aftermarket 5x8 speakers I measured use diff screws location
